I learned the rudiments of classical Hebrew by myself, not
enough to converse fluently, but enough to decipher documents with the
aid of dictionaries, read prayers, excerpts from the scriptures etc. And
Hebrew isn't even an Indo-European language.
Sorry I also wanted to mention that most of my time (and this may make you
all shudder because of my lack of Slavic languages) is spent transcribing
ALL records for the villages of:

Rosochowaciec, Skalat, Galicia, Austria now Rosokhuvatets, Pidvolochysk,
Ukraine
As well as all other villages that were covered by the RC and GC churches of
Skalat.

Jasienow Polny, Horodenka, Galizien, Austria, later Jasienow Polny
(Horodenka), Stanislawow, Poland; now IAseniv-Pil'nyi, Horodenka,
Ivano-Frankivs'k, Ukraine

Borshchiv, (Borszczow)(Borcszow), Stanislau district, Ukraine and all of the
villages that made up the RC and GC churches.

Zbaraz Miasto, Zbaraz, Galicia, Austria and the 40 or so villages that made
up the RC church and not sure yet how many villages made up the GC church.

Some days this takes up to 18 hours a day, there are well in excess of so
far about 78 villages.

Thanks,

Cathy Hoffman

-----Original Message-----
From: herbarz-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:herbarz-bounces@rootsweb.com] On
Behalf Of Kaytee
Sent: Monday, August 04, 2008 11:21 AM
To: herbarz@rootsweb.com
Subject: Re: [HERBARZ] English Herbarz

Yes Leon, congratulations on learning a new language.

For those of us with learning disabilities namely myself, who comes from all
Polish and all Ukrainian backgrounds who listened to both languages on a
daily basis and who watches next to no television and who should be able to
speak a little of both languages, and who can not and would really like to
learn would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for resources. I learned the rudiments of classical Hebrew by myself, not
enough to converse fluently, but enough to decipher documents with the
aid of dictionaries, read prayers, excerpts from the scriptures etc. And
Hebrew isn't even an Indo-European language. The key to leaning
languages is being able to turn off the television for hour each day.
Does one desire access to P-L armorials and records, or would one rather
watch Jay Leno and David Letterman?
Leon - congratulations.
You are absolutely right. If people want to learn Polish they will put in
the time and effort to learn. It does take time and effort to learn any
language.
George Lucki

-----Original Message-----
From: herbarz-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:herbarz-bounces@rootsweb.com] On
Behalf Of Leon Stevens
Sent: Monday, August 04, 2008 10:53 AM
To: herbarz@rootsweb.com
Subject: Re: [HERBARZ] English Herbarz

> Sounds like you already speak Slovak.
