Interesting.....
My GG-Grandfather was Green B. Humphreys and I believe the B. may have stood
for Berry. I have found a Greenberry Humphreys also but I can't seem to
connect the two. And word has been passed down through the years that he
was part Indian.....hmmmmmm.
I have come across "Green" as a first name very, very often. I would like
to know also!!!!

I don't know about the Indian part---although I happen to be part Indian. No
one of my KNOWN Indian relatives were named Green(e). However, my husband
has an uncle, Greene Miller who was named after another Greene Miller in the
Dale/Coffee Co, AL. area. Earlies in their family, on their EDWARDS' side,
my husand has a gggrandfather named Green Wilson Edwards, who was named
after his Uncle Green W. Edwards. At that time (early 1800's)---to mid
1800's, I guess, I have found the name Greene in many families from SC. GA.
AL and into FL. My son-in-law, who is an Ellis (and IS part Indian) has
several Greenberry and Green Ellis's in his line. Related to him are some
ROWELL families who also have several Greens and Greenberry's. If anyone
know why this name was so popular, I, too, would be interested.
