Eureka!!!!
I've finally found my Allen connection after 25 yrs. It's all circumstantial so far, but I'm confident it's the correct line.
Talcott B. Allen b. 1789/90, died 1824 according to his gravestone inscription in Pine Hill Cem., Elba, Genesee Co., NY. According to his War of 1812 pension papers, Huldah (Allen) Baker (we thought she was his dau.) stated that Talcott B. Allen was m. 1811 in Schoharie, Schoharie Co., NY to Lucy Rice. Hulday was b. in 1808 in NY, so she couldn't be a dau. Huldah also stated that she attended his last illness, dressed his corpse, and attended his funeral. She was always called Aunt Hulday by older (now gone) relatives, so we knew she was either Talcott's dau. or now, his sister.
Talcott, his widowed wife's future husband, Joseph Sackett, his wife's bro.-in-law, Truman Colburn, and his wife's step-father, Elisha Pomeroy were all listed one household after the other in Elba, NY on the 1820 census. On the 1830 census, were listed Morris Baker (husband of Huldah), Isaac Sackett (son of Joseph), and Bradley Allen. Bradley Allen is listed as age 59 on the 1860 census, so was b. 1800/1801 in CT.
So, I went to the FamilySearch.com site, and found a Bradley Allen b. 1800 in Fairfield, CT. His parents were listed as Benjamin Allen and Ruhamah Bulkley. No parents were listed for Benjamin Allen, but his wife's parents were listed as (get this!!!) Talcott Bulkley and Esther Bradley, Hence, the names of two grandsons, Talcott B. (Bulkley?) Allen, and Bradley Allen.
And, Benjamin and Ruhamah Allen had a dau. named Huldah!!!! She was b. abt. 18 yrs. before Huldah (Allen) Baker, but the first one must have died young. They didn't list Talcott as their son, and their marriage was listed a year or two after Talcott was born, but I have to see photostats of the records to be sure.
The site also, on another setting listed the death date of Benjamin as 1827. It didn't list where. Since Huldah was b. in 1808 in NY, and Talcott was m. in 1811 in Schoharie, I believe he probably died in NY.
Does anyone know of a Benjamin Allen with a wife Ruhamah in NY? Or, is anyone researching this family (see below for outline)?
