Hello Everyone
I'm hoping someone can provide me with some advice and direction in locating
information on GEORGE ANDERSON b 1774 Dundee to GEORGE ANDERSON, merchant
and ISABEL THOMPSON. Information gleaned from the will of George's
father-in-law, JOHN ORKNEY (c1745-1819), shipmaster and vintner in ARBROATH,
indicates that George may have joined the ROYAL NAVY in 1804. It also
indicates that George was also a merchant for some period althought he was
still serving in the Navy in 1819. I do not believe that George was pressed
into service, rather that he joined freely and was part of the officer
class. Can anyone provide advice regarding potential sources of further
information regarding the naval career of GEORGE ANDERSON? Is there any
readily accessible information regarding any recruitment of men from DUNDEE
to the ROYAL NAVY 1804-1819?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Gordon Troup
