There wasn't birth registration in the 18th century, what we deal
with is baptism records - and what's on the IGI and Origins is the
Church of Scotland Parish registers. If yoour folk were another
denomination, you have a chance that the baptism is in another
register. It's only a chance, and the bad news is that the other
denomination registers (where they survive) are in the National
Archive, not indexed and not on line, so you'll need a researcher to
do a lookup.
