Hi Susan and all,
AVRI stand for Australian Vital Records Index. It is a set of CD-ROM's which
are based on the Pioneer Indexes of four states only - New South Wales,
Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia. There are some "holes" and
omissions therein, as in all indexes, but it is a fast way to search BDM's.
HOWEVER, it is not allowed to be sold in Australia. The Latter Day Saints
compiled it, on the understanding between themselves and the Aust.Gov't,
that it would not be marketed in Australia in opposition to the complete
fiche sets of Pioneer Indexes put out here.
As I said once before, in mentioning it I have created a monster, in that
many, many people had not heard of it and now want it, but if I hadn't said
it then someone else would have done so eventually, I guess!
Cheers from Tasmania
AEnone.
