Hello List.
OUR FAMILY Mary POLKINGHORNE married Marshal Edmonds TRETHEWEY 1892 in Queensland.
Here is some info we had on file and each little bit of jig saw is starting to come together.
Extract from BARRIER TRUTH newspaper 13/1/1939 Death of a Couple.
Yesterday morning neighbours of Mr & Mrs E Trethewey of 21 Wolfram Street, Broken Hill, becoming anxious at their non appearance, investigated and found both sitting in their house dead. Mr Trethewey was 74yrs of age and Mrs Trethewey ( Mary (nee POLKINGHORNE) was 70yrs. Death was apparently due to old age and excessive heat. The aged couple had been dead apparently many hours. Mrs Trethewey was seen alive at midday on wednesday when she was given a drink of iced water by a neighbour. The milkman called yesterday morning. The can had not been left out and he could not raise anyone. It was not until later that morning that neighbours entered the house and found Mr. Trethewey dead in the sitting room and Mrs Trethewey was in the kitchen. Police were notified and Constables Porter and Hamilton went to investigate. The Govt. Medical officer, Dr. W George examined the bodies at the house. He ordered their removal to the Morgue where he conducted a postmortem.
