Carolyn: I agree with Louise on the marriage/non marriage possibility.
I have two sets of gggparents in Sydney who never married, although a
month and year was on one child's cert. Both of the gggfathers still
had wives and children back in Scotland and England respectively - they
came for gold and for one reason or another never went back or sent for
their families, instead settled into a new family life in Australia.
Probably happened more than we realise. Just another thought! Glenys
