Since you asked... (continuing with that same story quoted, above):
"John Garcia Pereira was 'very brave' and because he, in the Kingdom of
Sarzedas, killed a noble named Coutinho, a very close relative of the Count
of Marialva, he fled to Tangiers where John de Meneses, the Count of
Tarouca, a relative of his, was Governor in 1501, more or less. In order to
escape punishment he came to the Island of Faial where he married Lady
Elizabeth Pereira Roxo, the widow of Gabriel of Bruges, daughter of Gonsalo
Pereira Roxo and of his wife Lady Mary Sarmento, legitimate daughter of
Garcia Sarmento, Lord of Vigo and of his wife Lady Francesca of Souto-Maior
daughter of the Countess of Caminha."
