Pereira is an old Portuguese name. That book THE CROSS AND THE PEAR TREE by
Victor Pereira has confused more people than anything else. The Jews when
they converted chose just about every Portuguese name. To think they would
only take the names of trees or fruit is ridiculous. It would call attention
to them immediately and the point was to hide their Jewishness. There have
been many postings on this subject.

The truth is that most Portuguese have Jewish blood. That is the truth. Our
Jewish blood can come from the names of Sousa, Costa, Cardosa, Melo,
Ferreira, Goncalves, Rodrigues....and on down the line of Portuguese surnames.
