I do not know of a Gomes in my husband's family, but Correias are quite a
few. I have not been researching for long and this is a new addition for me.
The family was from Castelo Branco, Faial, but they all lived in Northern
California. I have not yet found out what port they arrived through, although
it is said that Luisa D'Utra Correia came on the first steamship to come from
Faial. I wonder if this means anything to anyone else on the list. Here's the
family I have...maybe you'll see a connection:

MANUEL D'UTRA CORREIA was born Bef. 1834 in Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal.
He married MICHAELINA EMILIA in Portugal.
Children of MANUEL CORREIA and MICHAELINA EMILIA are:
i. LUISA DUTRA CORREIA, b. 1858, Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal; d. 1951,
Gonzales, California, USA.
ii. MARIA DUTRA CORREIA, b. Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal.
iii. TOMAS DUTRA CORREIA.
iv. FRANCISCO DUTRA CORREIA.

2. LUISA DUTRA CORREIA was born 1858 in Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal, and
died 1951 in Gonzales, California, USA. She married ANTONE ROSA Abt. 1880 in
Gonzales, California, USA, son of ROSA.

3. MARIA DUTRA CORREIA was born in Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal. She
married ANTONE ALVES.

4. TOMAS DUTRA CORREIA. He married MARIA EMILIA VARGAS.

Children of TOMAS CORREIA and MARIA VARGAS are:
i. MARIA CORREIA, b. Castelo Branco, Faial, Portugal.
ii. JOSE CORREIA.
iii. ANTONIO CORREIA, m. HENRIETTA.
iv. FRANCISCO DUTRA CORREIA, b. Abt. 1896; d. 1945.

5. FRANCISCO DUTRA CORREIA. He married ANNA VARGAS.

JOSE CORREIA. He married HELEN PERRY.
Child of JOSE CORREIA and HELEN PERRY is: JEAN CORREIA.

12. FRANCISCO DUTRA CORREIA was born Abt. 1896, and died 1945. He married
MARY ROSE COTTA May 1920 in Newman, California, USA, daughter of ANTONIO COTTA
and MARIA LINHARES.
