Welcome to the list. You having Pico ancestors, I hope you stick around...
To answer your question, ROSE is the Americanized form of the surname ROSA
(which happens to mean "rose" but is supposedly of Flemish origin -
Flanders, now part of Belgium). That name was formerly spelled ROZA from
about 1850 on back, but that date varies with the priest who wrote the name.
Yes, records of Pico are available in your nearest LDS (Mormon) library to
you. You must order the ones you want which will be sent from Salt Lake City.
The records are generally from 1876 or 1875 on back the the beginning year
of each village on Pico. Other island parishes vary with Faial going into
the late 1880s or more recent.
Why not say some names of your ancestors and if you know some dates or good
estimates, and villages of origin, include them? Maybe someone here is your
distant cousin. I have LOTS of anccestors named "da Roza" from Pico.
