O.K., so no one recognized my grandparents when this was first posted. I have a few questions -- Please help me.

1) Am I correct in the assumption that the family name of Jose Pereira Goularte is Pereira and that Goularte was his mother's maiden name?

2) I've checked so many passenger lists that I am going blind. Supposedly they arrived soon before they got married ("legend" has it that they met on the boat, but most don't believe that), which means that they should have arrived in RI or MA (maybe NY??) anywhere from 1900 to 1904). Can anyone help me?

3) Birth records from the Azores. This is the scariest of all; especially with the multitude of names my grandmother had.

4) In a few days, I will have their Church marriage certificate scanned. I need it translated. Is it o.k. to post it here? Even though I'm half Portuguese, my Dad only taught me to say "Give me a kiss" and "I love you" in Portuguese (I wouldn't presume how to spell it).

5) Am I missing something? Should I be asking other questions? Where else should I look? What are the absolute best web sites?

JOSEPH "JOSE PEREIRA GOLARTE" PERRY was born July 28, 1883 on Fayel, Azores, Portugal. He died July 24,1947 in Cambridge, MA, and is buried in Cambridge Cemetery. His parents are Antonio and Ricarda or Francisca.

"Joe Perry" married "Mary Perry" on April 10, 1904, at the Igreja de Nossa Senbora Church, Providence, RI. Witnesses at the ceremony were Manuel Ignacio Vargas & Maria Vargas.

THERESA "MARIA THEREZA" SOUSA (DE SOUSA OR SOUZA) was born supposedly on July 28, 1890 on Sao Miguel (St. Michaels), Azores, Portugal (but there are other birth dates and variant name spellings on various official documents: Death Certificate -- DOB: 28 Jul 1889; State Marriage License -- DOB: 1885; Tombstone -- DOB: 1888; Husband Death Certificate -- DOB: 1887 --- Marriage License: Maria Thereza Sousa; George Perry (son) Baptismal: Theresa de Sousa; Death Certificate: Theresa Mary Perry; Husband Death Certificate: Theresa Sousa). She died on November 29, 1960 at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA, and is buried in Cambridge Cemetery. Her parents are Marianno & Maria.

They had 13 children: MARY, JOSEPH, AMELIA, ANTHONY, MANUEL, ALBERT, ANNE, ROSE, DOROTHY, THERESA, GEORGE (my father), JOHN and LOUISE. Only my Aunt Rose and Aunt Louise are left, and they know nothing about when their parents are from. Virtually all of my info has come from documents.
