I was intrigued by the name Rita, when I first saw it ( a 3d great
grandmother) I thought it was a shortened name for Margarita. I have since
learned that there was a Saint Rita in Italy. After many years of trying to
get into a convent they admitted her and gave her a task of watering a piece
of wood until it grew. The wood took root and today still bears fruit. An
earlier spelling would be Ritta.
