That's an interesting possibility as to alternate spelling to modern day.
Yesterday I viewed additional ship lists for arrivals in New York from
Antwerp. I found the EPERVIER (11 Mar - 22 Apr 1847) and two of the
families I was searching for were listed. Surprisingly, the passenger list
showed the husbands name, and then under that, the wife's name *including*
her surname. They were listed as coming from France. How much more could a
researcher ever hope for in the passenger lists!?
That takes care of two of the daughters. Now I still need to find the widow
Mary Francis GERIS with two sons (John & Joseph) and her daughter Margaret
sometime between the end of 1847 and 30 Jun 1848 when she purchased land in
Brown County, Ohio - I was disappointed that she wasn't with these other
daughters in '47 :(
Thanks to everyone who has shared information and thoughts concerning my
project. I really appreciate your guidance.
Jim
