Subject: [BRAZIL-L] Genuine Gateway Ancestors in Brazil.

I've already posted this, but here it goes:

a) Gateways to royalty:

- Albuquerque family in Pernambuco; stems from Jerônimo de Albuquerque. The line is well-traced from D. Diniz dow to this fellow; zillions of descendants today. Most remarkable: the Cavalcanti de Albuquerque family, with descendants into the Sayn-Wittgenstein family today.

- Moniz Barreto de Meneses family in Bahia, Rio and Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Several members. They all descend from the Monizes of Silves. Main ancestor in Bahia is Jerônimo Moniz Barreto de Menezes (second half, 16th century). There are also a couple of other branches in Bahia not directly descended from him. Again two or three closely related family members settled in Rio, early 17th century. And Jerônimo Dornelas de Menezes is the main gateway ancestor in the South (18th century).

- Vasconcellos, Bahia. While the agnatic ancestry has a doubtful link, they have lots of royalty connections through the Albuquerques, and are Columbus' `nephews' by marriage.

b) Kinship to titled nobility.

Include all Italian families from Madeira: Spinolas, Adornos, Lomellinis, Acciaiolis, Dorias. Also the Drummonds.

Right now I'm very busy. As soon as I have some spare time I'll post a 16th century document about the Madeira Drummonds that contradicts their `standard' Sinclair ancestry - or at least seems to.
