PENSION RECORD OF DOCTOR DRURY BUSH

State of Kentucky, Perry County,

On this 10th Day of June, 1833, personally appeared in open court before the Justices of the County Court of Perry, now sitting Doctor Drury Bush, a resident of said county, aged 75 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following Declarations in order to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress, passed 7th June, 1832.

That he entered the service of the United States under Captain William Russel, Lt. W. Russell, and Ensign William Poague. On Clinch River, now Russell Coutny, VA in the fall of the year 1776 as a regular soldier for one year.

I marched from there to Ramsey's Fort near the long island of Holstein at which place he staid about 6 months, and then returned to Clinch to Corvan's (?? unclear name) Fort, observed there the balance of the year. His a regularly discharged with a written discharge, but he has lost or mislaid it, so that he has not seen it for many years. He afterwards entered the service as a Volunteer for one year under Captain John Williams, Lt. Marney, and Ensign Harrison. He thinks in the year 1779. To go on then expeditions to Illinois. He met with Williams company on Clinch River. He went to the Island of Holstein with the companies of Capt. Taylor Helms, where they met with other troops too.

Col. Montgomery was the Commandant of the Regt. to which he belonged, they proceeded ty water from the Island of Holstein to the Ohio River and then take the Mississippi to Kaskankia calld Okan(???) and too Gov. Rosebrogh his stores. Then St. Peers Village about 15 miles distant then Kehoe town, then returned to Kaskankia where they met Gen. Clark. His troops.

He then enlisted in Capt. Robert Georges Company of Infantry during the War. Afterwards proceeded witht he troops to Wasbash River, now Vincennes, took Gov. Hamilton, stationed there that fall and winter, went then to the Falls of the Ohio, staid there. I made a loop, then went to Chillicothe, took the town, killed some Indians. I took some prisoners, then took Pickanayis ( unclear word ??) then back to the Falls of the Ohio. Afterwards down to the Grand Banks, erected a fort, raised corn. I had 8 days battle with the Indians. Gen. Clark at this time was gone to the Falls of Ohio.

Then up to Kankankia, then by water to the Falls of Ohio. When they were at Kankankia, first two negros taken, tried, and convicted for poisoning the whites, Hung by Hugh Young.

( This was very hard to read, in all I hope this is transcribed correctly.)

When the news of peace came they were at the Falls of Ohio with Gen. Clark. I am rejoicing by the firing of cannon. By accident John Oakley was killed.

At the close of the war he got his discharge, but his house got burnt in Clinch. He suposses it got burnt also all his papers were burnt.

He hereby relinquished every claim, whatever to a pension or annuity except this payment and declaring that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.

Sworn to, inscribed this day and year aforesaid, Drury Bush

Notes for CATHERINE AIKMAN:
Catherine's last name appears in Breathitt County Birth Records by Frances T. Ingmire. It would appear that Catherine is a daughter of John and Sally Mershon Aikmon. John Aikmon lives next door to Hugh Bush, CAtherine's husband in 1840. I cannot prove this lineage yet, but am including it as a possible theory. (Jan 20, 2001)

In the 1840 Census of Breathitt County, Doctor Drury Bush and John Bush live next door to each other, also note that John Bush in the 1850 Cnesus names two of his children Drury and Hugh. I think this is an excellent clue that John, Drury, and Hugh are related.

Notes for RACHEL RALEIGH:
Last name of Raleigh appears in the Book "Breathitt County Birth Records" by Frances T. Ingmire

5. MARY BUSH3 (MAYBE) (DOCTOR DRURY2 BUSH, JAMES1) She married UNKNOWN.

Notes for MARY BUSH (MAYBE):
Mary appears in the Breathitt County Birth Records Vital Statistics by Frances T. Ingmire.
Her son is Henry Bush, father unknown. She may be a sister or a cousin to Hugh and John Bush,
She is also living at Lost Creek. Since Mary, Ephriam, Drury, John and Hugh all appear living close in the Lost Creek area of the North Fork of the Kentucky River, I am assuming they are family. I am of course unsure until further proof comes along.

Child of MARY (MAYBE) and UNKNOWN is:
i.HENRY4 BUSH, b. April 1854.
