HIGGINSON, Samuel Robert
Higginson, Samuel Robert passed away peacefully at approximately 7 pm on
Friday, June 15th, 2007 at the Port McNeill hospital at the age of 79. Sam
is survived by and will be lovingly missed by Louise, his wife of more than
55 years, his sons Larry, Jerry, Ray, and Glen and 16 grand children and 8
great grand children. He is also survived by two sisters Annabel, Diana, and
brother Jim. In 1958 when their mother perished in a car accident, Sam and
Louise took in Jim and Diana and raised them with their own family. Sam
graduated from UBC in 1952 as a Forestry Engineer, and pursued a very
successful career in the logging industry retiring from Doman Industries as
Vice President of Woodlands in 1991. He and his wife Louise were always
entertaining many friends and relatives with his button accordion playing,
singing and yodeling, accompanied by Louise on her guitar. He instilled in
his sons and others his very competitive style and his strong sense of fair
play. He will always be known and missed for his love of life and great
sense of humour. Sam’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23 at the
Lions Hall in Port McNeill, at 1:30 pm. Refreshments will be served
following the memorial, in which friends and family will be encouraged to
share their many happy memories of this remarkable family man.
HAZEN, Joseph
October 23, 1925 - June 14, 2007
Born in Pangman, SK, moved to Port Hardy in 2000.
Predeceased by son Stephen (1980). Survived by daughter Linda (Bruce), son
Danny (Linda) and many grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life
held Saturday, June 23 1-3 pm @ #108 Cedar Heights Trailer Park.
DAVIDGE, Wendell Keith (Sab)
Davidge, Wendell Keith (Sab) - 55, of Sandford, Nova Scotia, former resident
of the North Island, passed away on June 6, 2007 at home after a 3 1/2 year
struggle with follicular Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
A historian, teacher, author, actor (and director), Keith had a vast
intellectual curiosity, a great sense of humour and a stalwart sense of
fairness. He was a student of philosophy, religion, time, sports, history,
drama, music,and the sciences who enjoyed aikido and diving. He could
discuss John Olerud and Oscar Robertson stats, Chaos theory, John Lennon
songs, the American Civil War, and build a cabin or corduroy road if one was
needed. Keith grew up in New Brunswick and had degrees from UNB and the
University of Maine (Presque Isle). He had a variety of work experiences
from the Port Alice pulp mill and fish farms in British Columbia to teaching
all grades and subjects in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Keith is survived by his wife of 15 years, Heather Jones; his father Robert
Davidge, Moncton, NB; brothers, Jim (Enid), Medicine Hat, AB; Doug (Jane),
Ottawa, ON; and Brock (Karen), Keswick Ridge, NB; and several cherished
nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by his in-laws:
Wayne and Janet Parker, Fredericton, NB; Chris (Ronda) Jones, Toronto, ON;
and Stephen (Melissa) Jones, Nauwigewauk, NB. He was predeceased by his
mother Dorothy Davidge and sister Lynn.
Keith wanted to thank everyone who helped him in his battle against cancer,
particularly Dr. David Webster. He also wanted to extend his gratitude to
all those who accompanied him on his journey. Cremation has taken place
under the direction of Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Internment took
place in Sanford on June 15.

HAND, Kenneth James
Passed away suddenly on June 4, 2007
Predeceased by his parents Eric and Joyce, brother Bud, sister Carrie. Ken
is survived by and will be loving missed by his sons James (Leanna) and
David. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Ryland and Lauren. Also
left to mourn his passing are his twin brother Gord (Sharon) and his sister
Debbie (Glenn) of Courtenay, nephews, Monty and Dustin and nieces Loreena,
Denise, Dana, and Mindy.
Ken was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His family moved to the Comox Valley in
1957 and then Ken settled in Port McNeill in the early 1970’s. Ken worked
for Island Foods for 30years and made many acquaintances with people in Port
McNeill and Port Hardy. Ken spent much of his time hunting,fishing,and
sailing with his sons. He also enjoyed visiting the cabin at Comox Lake.
There will be no service by request. His ashes will be spread at a special
place at a later date. Any donations in remembrance may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society.
