ADAIR, William Bernard "Barney" On June 25, 2007, Barney Adair passed away
suddenly in Juneau, Alaska while on a cruise with his wife Mary. Barney was
born on May 21, 1923 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was the youngest of four
children, one brother and two sisters. Barney spent his youth in Edmonton
until he joined the Canadian Air Force in 1942 and was posted overseas.
Barney spent the duration of his service in Burma and returned to Canada at
the end of WWII. After leaving the RCAF, he attended the University of
Alberta where he earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering, graduating in
1950. Barney worked for a year in the oil patch, but realized that his true
passion was flying and re-enlisted in the RCAF. Barney spent the next 19
years as a pilot and flight instructor with postings in Claresholm Alberta,
Marville France, Ottawa Ontario, Portage La Prairie Manitoba and Dar Es
Salaam Tanzania and retired to Portage La Prairie. Barney first met his
future bride Mary in Sylvan Lake, Alberta in 1948. They were married in
Edmonton, Alberta on May 7, 1949. The marriage was blessed with three
children, daughters Robin and Debi and son Brian. Barney and Mary retired to
Ladysmith, British Columbia where Mary still lives. Barney and Mary enjoyed
traveling in Airstream Caravans and spent many winters traveling the
Southern US and Mexico. They also enjoyed spending time with their 6
grandchildren, Christine, Michael, BJ, Kyle, Akeam, Unique, and their great
granddaughter Sophia. Barney was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and
Joseph Adair, sister Aileen and Nora, and brother Bob. Donations can be made
to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers. The family would like
to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Bartlett
Regional Hospital as well as the staff at the Alaskan Memorial Park and

ADDIS, Valerie (nee Smith) Passed away suddenly at Hospice, Prince George,
BC on June 30, 2007 after a short battle with Cancer. Born in Dunfermline,
Scotland on June 28, 1954. She was predeceased by her husband Ricardo in
2001. She leaves to mourn her children, Heather (Del) Punter, Fort St. John,
April (Cory) Wiens, Neepawa and Richard (Kate) Prince George, BC. Her
parents Ted and Nessie Smith of Victoria, BC, her sister Karen (David) Gray,
Victoria, BC. Nephew Travis Gray. Grandchildren, Victoria, Brittany,
Chelsea, Kolton and Kennedy Punter and Trinity, Jessica and Stephen Wiens.

AINSWORTH, Winifred "Win" (Mutrie) (Douglas) Born Winifred Jones, May 14,
1915, the daughter of Samuel and Maud Jones died peacefully on June 24th,
2007. Her final days were filled with her family and new friends at
Wingview, Ladysmith. Born in Manchester, England, the fourth of five
children, she worked as a lab assistant for J. Robertson & Sons Ltd and as a
policewoman during World War II. She married Francis (Frank) Douglas on
January 1, 1941 and emigrated to Canada in 1952. Living briefly on Quadra
Island, the family settled in Campbell River, BC. Raising three children,
Win was active in the community, working as a waitress, running a
kindergarten, performing in local theatre and eventually beginning a long
and rewarding career as a REALTOR. After Frank's death in 1971, Win moved to
Victoria and subsequently became a member of the Victoria Real Estate Board,
continuing her outstanding customer service until she retired in 1988. A
committed traveler, she returned to England many times and had homes in
Florida and on Maui. Predeceased by three husbands, Francis in 1971, Ralph
`Doc' Mutrie in 1996 and Peter Ainsworth in 2005, Win is survived by her
children Martyn Douglas (Mary) of Comox, BC, Rowena Rathlef (Rob) of
Ladysmith, BC, John Douglas (Donna) of Port Alberni, BC and grandchildren,
Sarah, Janine, David, Georgia and Charlie who will remember her always as
Tutu or Grandma Bubbles. Special thanks from the family to Mary and Ivan
Proud and the devoted staff of Wingview for making Win's time with them full

ASHER, James October 15, 1934 June 27, 2007 James (Jim) Asher passed away on
June 27, 2007 after a short fight with cancer. Jim is survived by his loving
wife Lois, his two daughters Deborah, Teresa, grandson Aaron. He will be
deeply missed and loved forever. There will be a grave side service at
Mountain View Cemetery in Duncan July 6th at 2:00 PM and a small celebration

BURNIP, Sylvia It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our
cherished mother and grandmother on June 28, 2007. Born June 27, 1916 in
Chase River, B.C. to Emmanuel and Serafija who had emigrated from Finland,
Julian Sylvian Salo was the youngest of three children. She was predeceased
by her parents, siblings, son Dennis (1946) and husband Clifford (1987).
Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her son Douglas Burnip, daughter Karen
Bourne (Tom); grandchildren Jason, Jackie and Kevin Burnip, Christine and
Joanna Waugh; Carl and Margaret Burnip, Port Alberni, B.C.; Olive Dickinson,
Vancouver, B.C.; nieces, nephews and their families and many good friends.
Sylvia was an outgoing and active woman with an inquisitive mind who enjoyed
extensive travelling, golf, bridge, gardening, family and friends. She was a
long time member of the Gorge Vale Golf Club and Oak Bay United Church as
well as her sewing club group that was founded in Nanaimo (1938). A service
in Sylvia's memory will be held at First Memorial (1155 Fort St.) on
Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made
to The Oak Bay United Church Building Fund or the Heart and Stroke

CROWHURST, Donald Wensel Poppa Don passed away peacefully at the Lodge at
Broadmead on July 2, 2007 and was predeceased by his son Douglas in 1996. He
will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Gladys; son Dennis
(Bobbie), their children Michael and Misty; daughter-in-law Lynne and her
children, Cameron, Denise and Nadine, eight great grandchildren, Ayan,
Amina, Anisa, Quinn, Brooke, Hayley, Adain and Chelsea. Poppa Don will also
be sadly missed by his sister Theda Procher. Poppa Don joined the RCN as a
boy seaman and retired as a CPO in 1964. He then worked for the Liquor Board
in Sidney, BC until 1974. He volunteered with the Lions Club caring for the
Food Bank for many years. A celebration of Poppa Don's life will be held at
First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive on Friday, July 6 at
2:00pm, with a reception to follow. Special thanks to the nurses and staff

DICK, Herbert April 6, 1922 to June 28th, 2007 Predeceased by his sisters
Barbara, Edna, Minnie, Stell, and brothers Roy and Bill. Survived by his
loving wife of 63 years Isabella "Isa" and son Rodney. Brothers Alf and Orm
and several nieces and nephews, Laurel, Rhonda, Jane, Judy, Valerie, Randy,
Brian, Grant, Collin, David. Herb was born in Keith Scotland. As a young man
Herb immigrated with his family to Canada settling in Dauphin, Manitoba. He
enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy March 24, 1941 and served overseas
during WWII and retired from the Navy Jan. 21, 1966. After retirement he
worked for an investment company and owned and operated a small grocery
business as well as a motel prior. Herb loved animals. His passion, from his
youth in Scotland, was horses, he owned and trained several race horses over
the years both Thoroughbred and Standardbred RaceHorses. Cremation will be
followed by a memorial service at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive., July
5th 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated.

DICKER, Douglas Ernest November 20, 1919 July 1, 2007 Doug passed peacefully
into the presence of his Lord this past Sunday evening. He is survived by
his loving wife Barbara, his daughter Susan Lundy (grandchildren Danica and
Sierra), and his son Craig and daughter-in-law Leanne (grandchildren
Benjamin and Lorelle). He was born the second of three children in Victoria,
BC, where he lived his whole life. He was well respected in the paint and
coatings industry, working many years for Bapco Paints before forming his
own company, Dicker Martens Paints, with Jack Martens. He enjoyed many
outdoor pursuits including flying, sailing, fishing, and camping. He was a
very active member of Central Baptist Church, where he served for many years
in various roles, including as a Board member, Sunday School teacher, and
youth sponsor. He was well known for his quick wit and his love for a good
joke. He was a man of integrity, and he was completely devoted to God and to
his family. We love him, and we miss him greatly, but we look forward to
rejoining him for all of Eternity. A memorial service will be held at
Central Baptist Church this Friday, July 6, at 1 :30 pm. If desired,

DOWNEY, Patrick William (Dad/Poppa) Born to Charles William and Leona Marie
Downey October 9, 1941 in Copiague, New York. Patrick William Downey passed
away June 17th 2007. Poppa was loved by his large family (Charles,
Catherine, Josephine) children (Sean, Michael and Aja) (Anne-Marie, Sean)
and grandchildren (Jaime, Bryce and Logan). Patrick was a devoted disciple
and teacher of Reverend Mother Hamilton's teachings. Mother made Patrick
Minister and center leader in Victoria in 1987.Patrick worked and
volunteered in social work for over four decades. Patrick saw the light in
everyone he met, and would share his last dime with a perfect stranger. Pat
would help support and guide people in any way he could. He will be forever
loved by his constant canine companions Picasso and Sadie. Pat had the
biggest and most uplifting laughter which was often heard from great
distances. Poppa's joy will live with us for eternity. We love and miss you
Poppa, you are in our hearts forever. We are in mourning of the loss of your
physical presence Poppa, but we are celebrating your spirit in our hearts

FISCHER, Sister Frances Mary Sister Frances Mary Fischer (Sister Frances
Louise), Sister of Saint Ann, died peacefully, June 30, 2007 at St. Ann's
Residence, Victoria, BC, at the age of 91. Born in Pandora, Alberta, to
Anton and Mary (Mehl) Fischer on December 29, 1915. In April 1938, she
entered the Novitiate of The Sisters of St. Ann, Victoria, BC, and took her
first vows July 26, 1940. Until 1982, Sister Frances served in roles of
Community Service as cook, seamstress and other related service in missions
of British Columbia: Duncan, Kamloops, Campbell River, Oliver, Lower Post,
East Sooke, New Westminster and Victoria. She also served as cook in the
Yukon at St. Mary's Hospital, Dawson. From 1982, Sister resided at St. Ann's
Residence, devoting herself to Community Service and prayer. Predeceased by
her parents, her brothers Andrew, Patrick and Robert; sisters Katharine
Vogel and Margaret Goetz, she will be sadly missed and leaves to mourn her
niece Theresa Vogel (Victoria, B.C.), nephew Lawrence Vogel Sr.
(Saskatchewan) and family, niece MaryBeth Goetz-Cowie (Don) and family
(Alberta), niece Eleanor GoetzHenderson (Mel) and family (Alberta), numerous
grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins Martha Nagle (Oregon), Mary
Catherine and Raymond Mehl (Missouri), members of her Religious Community
and friends. A prayer service will be held at St. Ann's Residence, 2474
Arbutus Road, Victoria, BC, July 3, 2007 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of the
Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Ann's Residence, July 4, 2007 at

GODDARD, Isabella Isabella passed away peacefully June 30th, 2007 with
family by her side. Born in Northern Ireland Feb.14th, 1923. Came to Canada
in 1926, she was raised in the farming community of Strome, Alberta, the
oldest of 16 brothers and sisters. Met and married Wesley Harwood Goddard in
1942. Had a daughter and son in Edmonton then moved to Victoria in 1947.
Lived in Victoria for many years enlarging their family with another son and
daughter. Lived on the Mainland for 23 years finally retiring back on the
Island in Duncan with her husband Wes. Mom was an avid gardener; she loved
to dance and bowled for many years at Duncan Lanes and many other alleys
through her travels in life. Survived by: daughters: Sharon (Denny) Adrian;
Brenda (Boyd) Stephen; sons: Dennis (Cecile) Goddard; Douglas Goddard and
six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters.
Isabella was predeceased by her husband Wesley of 62 years in 2004. She was
greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all that knew her. A Celebration
of life will be held on Saturday, July 07th at 1:00pm at First Memorial
Funeral Services, 375 Brae Road, Duncan. There will be a Tea to follow. In
lieu of flowers, donations in Isabella's memory can be made to the Special

JESTICO, Norman Dennis June 9, 1932 June 29, 2007 It is with heavy hearts
that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather.
Norman was born in Sussex, England and after immigrating with his small
family to Canada, went on to establish his own manufacturing and design
business in the marine industry. He left us on June 29th after a very brief
battle with cancer. Norman was a good man who enjoyed his hobbies, including
developing inventions for our motor home. In the early years, we traveled
extensively through the U.S. Our children, Caroline (Fred), Bob (Paula) and
Greg enjoyed many adventures with us. Recently we found pleasure in holiday
trips along with our dogs and friends. A full life, including ultra-light
flying, boating, cycling and canoeing. Five special grandchildren: Danny,
Jamie, Diana, Ben and Stephie are left to carry on the Jestico line. Our
sincere thanks to all the compassionate staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital,
especially Dr. Tetley, Connie, Randall and Sharon, who were there when we
needed them and also our friends who supported us in our time of need. Go

McFARLANE, Robert Gordon Chief Warrant Officer 1st Class (ret) 31/03/1933
30/06/2007 Bob was born in Carmen, Manitoba and passed away quietly on
Friday in Victoria. Predeceased by his sisters Doris Klassen and Pat Denoon,
he is survived by an adoring family: his wife Sannee, children Janice and
David, step-sons Steve, Craig and Chris, their spouses and children. Also
his sister Marge, brothers Red and Ken and their families. Bob idolized his
grandchildren. Bob served in the Canadian Navy for thirty years. He had
enlisted on a whim and remained to serve with honour. He was a veteran of
the Korean Conflict. Upon retirement from the service he joined the Federal
Public Service in Victoria, retiring from there in 1986 after 5 years. Bob
had a wonderful, wry sense of humour as well as a passion for golf, hockey
and bridge. Prior to enlisting he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings farm
club. He was a life member of the Gorge Vale Golf Club. Bob had high moral
and ethical standards, providing a role model for many. He will be sorely
missed. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the medical practitioners at
Royal Jubilee Hospital for their outstanding care. At Bob's request there
will be no funeral. Friends and well wishers are invited to remember his joy
of life at a reception this Friday, July 6th, from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at
the Gorge Vale Golf Club. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be

MILLER, Tyrone George Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1st, 2007
surrounded by his loving family at Victoria Hospice after a courageous
battle with cancer. Ty was born in Victoria on September 18, 1946. He will
be sadly missed by his family his loving wife Robin of 37 years, daughters
Trina (Mike) and Debra (Matt), grandson Jacob and new grandchild due to
arrive in October. He will also be missed by his mother Jenny, his twin
brother Dallas (Elaine), nephews Carson (Ben and Olivia) and Jordan (Erin),
his large extended family and many long times friend. He is predeceased by
his father Hilliard in 1994. Ty recently retired from BC Transit after 28
years of service. His passions in life included his wife, his daughters and
grandchild and his longstanding love of cars and dragracing. He was a member
of the Quarter Milers Car Club and was involved with the Van Isle Dragways.
Ty's family would like to thank his wonderful doctors Dr. Graylene Hargrove,
Dr. Alex Walton and Dr. Jorg Michaels as well as the stall and volunteers at
the Victoria Cancer Clinic and Victoria Hospice. A celebration of his life
will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 pm at First Memorial Funeral

MULLETT, Mary (nee Roughley) Our much loved mother passed away with her
family at her side, June 27th, 2007 at Oak Bay Lodge in Victoria, B.C. Born
to English parents in Hamilton, Ontario on March 4th, 1924, Mary is survived
by her three sons, Kevin, Robin and Don, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and
great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by
her husband, Raymond in 1991 and her daughter, Catherine in 1999. Mary was
known for her very easy personality, her kindness and her caring for others.
She treated all those she met with the same enthusiasm and created a loving
home where everyone felt welcome. She was most happy in the kitchen
surrounded by her family. Mary was assisted to live with dignity for seven
years by the professional, caring and compassionate staff at 1st Dogwood,
Oak Bay Lodge. A celebration of her life will be held July 28th between 2 pm
and 4 pm at the home of her family Robin and Jennifer Mullett, 1953 Nicholas
Rd. in Central Saanich. All are welcome who wish to attend. Those wishing to

PATERSON, Winifred B. (nee Cotton) 1915 2007 In loving memory of Winifred,
who passed away peacefully on June 24, 2007. Winifred is predeceased by her
husband Pat", and brothers Larry and Stanley, and she is sadly missed by her

RENNISON, Philip Roger It is with great sadness that the family of Philip
Roger Rennison announces his sudden passing in his home on Wednesday, July
18, 2007, at the age of 58 years. Born in Birmingham, England, Phil was a
graduate of Brooklynd Technical College and highly skilled in carpentry and
photography. In 1977, he immigrated with his family to Canada, eventually
falling in love with Sidney and choosing it as home. Phil will be lovingly
remembered by his life partner Sue and their children, Phillip Jr,
Charlotte, Christopher, and Johnathan. Phil will also be fondly remembered
by his three granddaughters, Amelie, Isla, Isis and by his brother David.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, Edith Kathleen and Harry Thomas
Rennison. Phil will also be greatly missed by his many friends and
associates that had the pleasure of knowing him and working beside him. We
will all miss the way he would listen to us, his sensitive nature and his
caring concern for others. All who knew him are invited to a Gathering in
Memory of Phil to be held on Wednesday, July 4th, from 2-5pm, at The

WALTON, Janet Bell On June 29, 2007. Predeceased by her parents, Dr. George
and Mrs. Kathleen Walton of Regina, SK., she will be remembered by her
beloved sisters, Anne and Molly; and her brother, Guy Walton of Victoria,
BC. Janet was with Biomedical Publications at Sick Children's Hospital in
Toronto and later with Veterans Affairs in Victoria. Janet's family wishes

YUWI, Kwatya (nee Elaine Louie) Peacefully on June 28, 2007. Born in
Ahousaht on November 6, 1955, predeceased by parents George and Viola Louie,

daughters Donna and Rose, beloved granddaughter Sapphire, former spouses
