HUGHAN, Kathleen Melita (nee Priestley) April 25 1911 July 1, 2007 Kay
Hughan passed away peacefully at Malaspina Gardens, Nanaimo BC on July 1,
2007 at the age of 96. Predeceased by husbands Edward Mcintyre (1964) and
Peter Hughan (1986), parents Melita and Arthur Priestley, brothers Les and
Ken Priestley, and son, Gordon Mcintyre. She leaves to mourn two daughters,

great grandchildren, one sister, Lynette Stofer (Ken), and sisters in law
Mabel Priestley and Marj Mcintyre as well as nieces and nephews and numerous
friends. Kay was born and raised in the Nass Valley, a descendant of pioneer
families James McCullagh and Joshua Priestley. She was well known for her
gardening skills, sharing her knowledge with the world. As a small child,
she began writing poetry, a passion which continued for more than ninety
years. Her stories paint a wonderful picture of a life filled with love,
adventure and even a little sadness. She was a mender of broken bones,
broken hearts and torn fabrics. She had great courage during adversity and a
strong will to keep things in balance. She always believed in a sense of
humour, a sense of adventure, and common sense. She has kept family history
alive with her literary skills, handing it down to future generations
providing a sense of connection to home and family. In 1954 she wrote this
poem. It is appointed unto everyone A time to die And none may hang his head
And say "not I " And so we walk, not as seems alone, But with a Presence
stronger than our own A comforter who seems to say "Come, take my hand and
walk with me today ". Mom will live in all our hearts always. We miss you.
Enjoy your journey. 387143
