ARMSTRONG Lorraine Cecilia - Lorraine Cecilia Armstrong passed away Friday,
July 6, 2007 at Chilliwack General Hospital. She was surrounded by her
loving husband George, her four sons and daughters-in-law. After a lengthy
illness she quietly slipped away into the arms of her loving Saviour.
Lorraine was born September 11, 1938 in Comox, Vancouver Island. At the age
of thirteen, her family moved to the farming community of Rosedale, BC,
where she met and later married George Armstrong. Together they started
their gravel business and raised their four sons. Lorraine was known for her
beautiful smile and generous heart. Her gift of hospitality was evident to
all who entered her home. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain.
After retirement, she discovered she had a flare for gardening, even winning
first prize for a floral arrangement at the fair. However, nothing gave her
more joy than reaching out to her community, her church, her family and
friends with an encouraging word, homemade pies and always with a prayer.
For over seventeen years Lorraine volunteered with Chilliwack Hospice
Society and considered it to be the greatest honour and privilege. Countless
hours were spent at hospital bedsides, wiping fevered brows, offering sips
of water and whispering words of comfort. "Many women do noble things but
you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:29 Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your bed to grieve I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing Go rest high on that mountain Daughter,
your work on earth is done Go to heaven a shoutin' Love for the Father and
the Son Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Roderick and Vada Selfe;
father-in-law Joseph Armstrong and grandson "baby" Jarrett Armstrong. She is
survived by her loving husband, George Armstrong; sons, Brian (Brandi)
Armstrong, Bruce (Tena) Armstrong, Barry (Sheila) Armstrong and Brad
Armstrong; grandchildren, Ashely (Jarrett) Vaughan, Luke Armstrong, Amber
Armstrong, Stephanie Stevens, Chris Dahl, Cody Armstrong, Ken Armstrong,
Krena Armstrong; brother, Jim (Sharon) Selfe from Shuswap, BC; sister,
Corrine Simmons from Nanaimo, BC; sister, Melissa (Ed) Woolrich from Prince
George, BC. "Celebration of her Life" service will be held on Wednesday,
July 11, 2007 at 1:30 pm at First Avenue Christian Assembly in Chilliwack.
Rev. Tim Rowan and Rev. Gordon MacDonald officiating. Burial will be held at
Chilliwack Cemetery with a tea to follow at First Avenue Christian Assembly.
Thank you to Doctor Brodie and staff for all their support and care during
her illness. A heartfelt thank you on behalf of George and the boys to the
many friends, neighbours, and family members who uplifted Lorraine during
her illness. The home cooked meals, the quiet visits and especially your
prayers were greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made
to the Chilliwack Hospice Society.

DENGLER _ Siegfried September 11, 1930 - July 2, 2007 It is with profound
sadness that we announce the passing of Sig (Siggy) Dengler on July 2, 2007,
at Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, after a courageous and difficult battle
against cancer. Sig leaves to mourn his loving companion of 17 years, Mary
Revell, his son and daughter, Chris (Sylvia) Dengler and Kim (Frank)
Wakelin, Mary's son and daughter, Todd (Geraldine) Zaharko and Tammy
Zaharko, and seven grandchildren. Sig is survived by his two sisters, Ursula
(Fred) Sibley, Vacaville, CA and Gundula Kiefer, Stuttgart, Germany. The
families would like to express their sincere thanks to the many friends who
traveled to Sorrento to visit Sig and share their friendship with him. This
was a special joy for Sig. As well, the families would like to express a
special thanks to the staff at Bastion Place for their professionalism and
caring attention throughout the period of Sig's stay and also for the
interest and efforts by the doctors and staff at the Salmon Arm Hospital.
Sig immigrated to Canada in 1951 from Germany, coming directly to Vancouver.
His lifelong love of nature, the landscape of British Columbia and its
coastal waters, led him to develop two major recreational interests,
photography and landscape gardening, and then to employment with the Fuji
Film Corporation until his retirement in 1995. Sig's work ethic, workplace
integrity, and his respect for his fellow employees along with his wit and
humour earned him many friends and the respect and friendship of all who
came to know him well while employed by Fuji Film. Sig met Mary in Delta in
1984 and the two of them became close friends and eventually chose to become
life companions blending their families and their many shared interests,
strengths, and life goals together - one of which was to create a home for
themselves that reflected their interests in skills in home and landscape
design and also one that they could share with others. Their goal led them
to Sorrento, and the creation of their bed and breakfast business, Solitude,
overlooking the beautiful vista of the forest surrounding the Shuswap Lake
area. It was their life's dream come true and their many guests have since
become both repeated visitors and friends due to Sig and Mary's hospitality
and genuine interest in others. No funeral service will be held at this
time. A celebration of Sig's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of
flowers, gifts on behalf of Sig to the CT Scan Campaign, c/o Shuswap

STEWART _ Jack Jack Stewart, 64, of Surrey, B.C. died on July 7, 2007 at the
Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, from complications following a
cancer diagnosis and several strokes. He is survived by his wife of 32
years, Brenda Taylor, by a son, Tim, of Toronto, and by two sisters, Noreen
Stewart of White Rock, BC and Bonnie Smyrski (Brian) of Surrey, BC. He is
also survived by nieces, nephews and friends throughout Canada. Jack was
predeceased by his parents, Alex and Marguerite (Stephens) Stewart, and by a
daughter and brother, both in infancy. He is also survived by his best
buddies, Andy and Ginger, two collies who were his constant companions,
especially in retirement, when they roamed the beaches, trails and parks of
the lower Fraser Valley. Jack worked for 30 years as a parole officer for
Correctional Services Canada, in Halifax from 1974 to 1994, and in New
Westminster and Abbotsford, B.C. from 1994 to his retirement in 2004. Jack's
life mentor was his namesake and grandfather, the Reverend JT Stephens, who
was recruited to Canada by J.S. Woodsworth, the founder of the current-day
NDP. Like his grandfather, Jack was a visionary in social services
programming, including initiatives that ranged from outward-bound adventures
and self-sustaining group homes, to providing assisted living and palliative
care for elderly and disabled federal inmates. In 1998, he received the
Corrections Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada. The
medal is only to be worn with formal attire, so he loved to joke that it
would never be seen outside the box in which it came. After 31 years in the
corrections field, he never lost sight of his dual responsibility of
protecting society, while ensuring that parolees got a fair break. He
believed fervently in balancing the rule of law and the civil rights of
offenders. He loved his job - but he loved his retirement just as much. At
Jack's request, there will be no service. Flowers are gratefully declined.
Jack asked that those wishing to honour his memory would do so by bestowing
a great act of kindness, whether monetary or otherwise, on abandoned or
homeless dogs. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Angela
Hutchinson for her meticulous and compassionate care. Jack's ashes will be
scattered in several of the places he loved best, including Jasper, Alberta,
where he lived as a boy, Bella Coola, B.C. where he participated in the
first archaeological field school out of Simon Fraser University, and in
Cape Dauphin, Cape Breton, where his in-laws, the late Gerald and Mabel
Taylor had a summer cabin. A memorial bench will be placed in Bear Creek
Park, near Jack's home in Surrey.
