DECOU _ Jessie Honor (1899 - 2007) passed away peacefully at Purdy Pavilion
in Vancouver on Wednesday, July 11 - she was 107 years old. "Muff", as she
was known to her friends, led an active and healthy life well into her
hundreds, much of it in the West End of Vancouver where she enjoyed sunsets
at English Bay, a round of pitch and putt at Stanley Park or an energetic
game of bridge at home with friends. Muff was preceded by her beloved
husband Ted, brother Trev, sister Mary and most recently her eldest son
Dick. She was survived by her daughter Joan Gorton, son Phil DeCou,
daughter-in-law Lucy DeCou, niece Pat Bresnahan along with 4 grandchildren
(Louise Gorton, Eric, Lori and Andy DeCou) and 3 great-grandchildren (Codi,
Connor and Cassidy). Many have asked, "what was the secret to her long life"
and although the common answer was always 'genetics' or 'moderation' the
truth likely lies more in the fact that Muff lived her entire life with a
'good heart' - filled with kindness, compassion, respect and integrity. To
those of us who had the privilege to have known her - she will be missed -
may her heart live on in each of us. By her wish, a private family gathering
will be held at a later date.

JORDAN _ Bert Richard December 8, 1923 to July 7, 2007 "Forever Loved" Our
wonderful husband, Dad and Poppa has left on his final journey with his
adoring family at his side to see him off. Bert proudly served his country
in the Navy during WW 11 and at the end of the war he returned home to West
Vancouver with the love of his life and new bride. The next few years found
him doing something he loved passionately; working on the railroad with his
father. Together they rode the rails of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway
with Bert happily firing for his dad, the Engineer. Railroading remained in
his blood forever. The majority of his working years were spent in the
reduction business. In 1969, he joined West Coast Reduction where he spent
many fulfilling years until his retirement in 1988. Bert was predeceased by
his parents Brazier and Jewel, his sister Margaret, his brothers Charlie and
Jack, and in 1995 by his son Al. He is survived and to be forever missed by
his wife and soul mate of almost 63 years, Alice, his son Rick (Judy), his
daughters Valerie (Bert Moritz) and April (Chris Farrall), Al's partner Ross
Dixon and the grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Jason (Blair) Jordan,
Sean (Darcy) Moritz, Wes (Amber) Jordan, Brad (Brenda) Moritz, Nicole
Jordan, and Brock (Veronica) Farrall. He also leaves behind 5 (and 1/2)
great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaitlin, Jacob, Saisha and Ethan - the "little
lights of his life". His passing will leave a large void in the lives of his
Casino buddy and younger brother, Roy (sister-in-law Shirley) and sister
Mary June Wyndham. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews both here
and south of the Border, and will be thought of fondly by many wonderful
neighbours and special friends. Bert will also be sadly missed by Alice's
surviving brothers, Lew and Frank and sister Hazel and their families, all
of Newfoundland. He thought of all of them with great fondness and will be
remembered as a man of integrity and compassion and one who was always ready
to extend a helping hand. A Celebration of Dad's Life will be held in the
Chelsea Gardens Clubhouse, 13888 70th Avenue, Surrey, on Sunday July 15,
2007 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations made in
his honour to BC Cancer Foundation/Fraser Valley, 13750 96th Avenue, Surrey
BC V3V 1Z2, would be greatly appreciated. The train has left the station.

KLINE _ Denise Meloer died on July 11, 2007 at Fair Haven in South Burnaby,
which was her home for the past 3 years. She is survived by her husband Ron,
and by her children Rick, Marion, Mark and Grace and their families. Her
date of birth September 6, 1921, Denise was - according to family lore - the
first European girl born on the island of Sumatra, now part of Indonesia but
at that time a Dutch colony. Her parents were English; her father managed a
large rubber plantation. The first language of Denise and her two brothers,
Dick and John, was Malay, as spoken by their caregivers and other children
they played with. Denise retained vivid memories of a childhood at the edge
of a tropical rainforest, with all its allures and hazards. In 1930 Denise
was sent "home" to England to be educated. She attended Queen Anne School
for Girls where she learned good manners and deportment, played vigorous
games of field lacrosse and acquired a lifelong aversion to cold morning
showers and mathematics. She completed school in 1939 and sailed back to
Sumatra as World War II was breaking out, narrowly missing internment in
Italy. Since war was also imminent in the East and a return to England was
no longer an option, Denise's family relocated across the Pacific to
Vancouver, Canada. There, at the age of 20, Denise met and married Fred
Vulliamy, with whom she raised her four children. Fred and Denise were early
members of the CCF party, and were delegates to the founding convention of
the New Democratic Party in Ottawa in 1961. After Fred's death in 1968,
Denise nervously entered the workforce for the first time in her life,
taking on such jobs as sales clerk, library assistant and housekeeper. In
1976 she married Ron Kline, a retired hardware merchant and long time
friend. The couple lived in Burnaby for the past 30 years, attended West
Burnaby United Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and other
charities. As Denise's health declined and she moved to Fair Haven, Ron
remained a dedicated caregiver and staunch support to the last. Denise was
unfailingly gracious and kind to everyone she met. At the same time she
possessed a strong sense of social justice and occasionally would surprise
those around her with forceful expression of her convictions. She enjoyed
the wacky humour and irreverence of her family, although she herself was
never wacky nor irreverent. She will be missed by all who knew her. The
family wishes to thank the staff at Fair Haven United Church Home for their
gentle care with Denise, especially during her final illness. A memorial
service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at West Burnaby United
Church, 6050 Sussex Ave. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in
Denise's name to the charity of your choice.

KEVIN MICHAELS March 1967 - July 2005 Somewhere a journey begins at the end
of the worldly existence we know, Where trials of life are resolved into
peace when a soul finds its way to the light, His weary hours and days of
pain, his troubled nights are past And in our aching hearts we know he has
found sweet rest at last. The special years will not return when we were all
together, But with love within our hearts, you will walk with us forever.

July 10, 2007. He is survived by his wife Ellie (Butler), daughter Laurie
(Jim Wright), son Jamie (Terry), grandchildren Ryan, Brady and Jennifer
Clarke, and cherished nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Jim
attended school and university there and nurtured a large group of lifelong
friends. He proudly served his country in the Second World War as
bombadier/navigator on a Lancaster bomber, flying many combat missions.
After the war, he and Ellie settled in Saskatoon where he began a successful
career with Moore Corporation. He retired in 1986 as a member of Moores
Lifetime Achievement Club for his sales excellence. From the moment he met
Ellie in 1940 and throughout their 67 years together, he loved her with all
his heart. Without question his proudest achievement were his kids, Laurie
and Jamie, and and his grandchildren, all of whom he loved, encouraged and
supported. An avid, and we mean avid, sports fan, Jim could tell you what
was happening on any given day, with any given sport. He especially could
tell you (you did not have to ask!) who was performing, or not performing,
with his Vancouver Canucks. Jim was a very good athlete and excelled at
golf, with two holes-in-one to prove it, but always complained that his
short game was "awful. He was renowned for his sense of humour, and we will
remember that about him most. It will sustain us. A reception for immediate

PAPAIS _ Giuseppe Born March 19, 1926 De Castions, Zoppola Italy - July 8,
2007. Giuseppe(Joe) surrendered his courageous battle over failing health.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of sixty one years, Liliana, his three
children, Edward (Mary), Marinella (Dan), Aldo (Pat) and six grandchildren.
(First great-grandchild on the way.) He is also survived by his 97 year old
brother Aldo, who has resided with him and Liliana these past four years,
sisters Nella and Nora, nieces and nephews who reside in Italy, nephew,
Lidio who lives here and has been like another son to him. Arriving in
Canada with his wife Liliana in February 1952, he was a ticketed Sea Captain
but a lack of the English Language forced a redirection to the trade of
Bricklaying and Stone Masonry. Many Vancouver landmarks saw Joe and his
crew's efforts. He was a respected foreman and innovative tradesman.
Apprentices and fellow tradesmen understood his zest for the job. He always
led by example. Over time he graduated grade 12, attended night school
college and prepared for 3rd year at UBC. Through life, respect for Joe was
understood from his selflessness, strong moral fortitude, love of family,
power of conviction and willingness to give to others. To many, Joe was
hero, not only in the Second World War as a resistance fighter decorated by
the Italian government, but also in the lives of those he touched. Known for
his strong will and ability to try the impossible, he often bemused and
amazed many with his accomplishments. Husband, Brother, Father, Uncle, and
Nonno, we will all miss you dearly. Good Bye. God be with you.
