our Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Uncle Sam, and loyal friend. Dad passed
away July 14th after a courageous fight with cancer and diabetes over the
past year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Kay (Kathleen May Guthrie) in
2000, his Mom, Elizabeth, and Dad, Samuel, and all of his 12 brothers and
sisters over the years, as well as his first grandson Carl Nyberg and his
son-in-law Art Wayman. Lovingly remembered by his daughters Trolene (Al)
Nyberg; Sharon Wayman; Arlene (Steve) Modderman; grandchildren: Carey (Dave)
Warwick & son Tory; Chris (Mahara) Wayman & daughters Sophia Rose, Kayla;
Sherri (Blair) Brown & sons Justin, Braiden, Rylan; Matt Davidsen; Jenny
Modderman-Adair. Also to be missed by "young Rick", (Rick Frechette), a
loyal buddy who never missed an opportunity for a visit. Originally from
Ontario, Sam was a devoted husband and Dad, and has enjoyed a quiet family
life since retirement, although quite lonely since losing Kay 7 years ago.
He served his country for 6 years at a very young age, and from there took
work wherever he could find it, eventually becoming a very skilled and well
known local plasterer and stuccoer, and lived in Victoria for 41 years. The
past 6 years he has resided in Langley and Chilliwack. A jack of all trades,
he loved working around the house and "fixing things up". He was very
thoughtful and was always there to lend a hand. He loved special occasions
celebrated with family. He was our very special "Santa" and we will miss him
very much! Our sincere thanks to Dr. Bester, the Chilliwack Hospital nursing
staff and the wonderful caregivers at Langley Gardens Retirement Home. A
memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise
Drive, Victoria (658-5244), on Thursday, July 26th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of
flowers donations to the Diabetes foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society
would be greatly appreciated. 392359

McKIMM, George Frederick Passed away with his loving family at his side July
18, 2007, after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Beloved husband to
Lil, father to George Jr., Anita, Bruce and Mayland, grandfather,
great-grandfather and uncle words do not describe how much we will miss him.
George was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario, April 29th, 1926. We know he will
be dearly missed by his brother, Warden and sister, Sheila now living in
Ottawa. On completion of his military service in 1945, he attended the
University of Toronto and obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in 1948 after
which he married his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian Mayland, then moved
with her to Calgary, Alberta. In 1957, George studied law at the University
of Alberta graduating with an LLB in 1960. Following articles he set up in
private practice in Calgary forming Watkins & McKimm all the while creating
great memories with his family and friends in the mountains around Banff,
camping, climbing, hiking and skiing. He and Lil moved to Sidney, B.C. in
1971 to pursue George's life-long passion for sailing. In 1972, he opened
his own law firm in Sidney (now known as McKimm & Lott) and enjoyed 20 years
deeply entrenched in a career in which he so truly believed. He will also be
sadly missed by all of his long standing staff from the Irish Linen Store in
Calgary, the Emerald Isle Motel and Smitty's in Sidney, and the Inn On Long
Lake in Nanaimo he was always grateful for their loyalty and dedication it
did not go unnoticed. Among George's many and varied volunteer endeavours
throughout his life, he rose to the rank of Regional Commander in the
Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. His family sailing adventures took him
from the coastal waters of British Columbia to Alaska, the coast of Maine to
the Bay of Fundy, the Baltic Sea and the Greek Islands. The family would
personally like to thank the caring and attentive staff at the Saanich
Peninsula Hospital and the Royal Jubilee with special thanks to Dr. Cadger,
Dr. Tetley, Marita, Clara and Rachel. We ask that condolences be through a
private moment of reflection on George's life and what he meant to all of us
or at A celebration of a life well lived will be held at

WISEMAN Henry Alvin Roderick (Rod) 03 August 1958 22 July 2007 A fighter to
the very end, Rod finally succumbed to cancer at the young age of 48. Born
at Gaspe, Quebec, the family moved at an early age to Shawinigan, Quebec
where he grew up. After graduating from Shawinigan High School, and a short
career as a traveling salesman, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces serving
as a Patricia (PPCLI) with the Canadian Airborne Regt, finally retraining as
an Aero Engine Tech with the Canadian Air Force. During Rod's career, from
October 1978 until his retirement in October 1994, he not only served his
country, but also served 2 tours with the United Nations in Cyprus. Rod is
survived by his wife, Wendy (Couzens), the love of his life and his 2
adoring children, Kerry and Justin. He also leaves behind his mother Lois,
sisters, Wanda (Jerry) and Sandra (Rick) and brothers, Paul (Michelle) and
Garry (Monica) and sister-in-law Anke and their children; Theodore, Jessica,
Jason, David, Cora, Nicholas, Alexander, and Naomi. Wendy's brothers and
sisters, Richard (Diane), Dennis (Lorrie), Jackie (Stu), Wayne (Sandy), Deb
(Cam), Sandy (Lloyd), Gary (Trina), Jamie (Rani), Tina, and Patti (Blaine)
and their children; Don, Darryl, Frazier, Katie, Jennifer, Melissa, Sherry,
Lisa, Kayla, Andrea, Rob, Jim, Monica, Mindy, Colby, Kailee, Carter, Kyle,
and Amy. Rod's best friend Camille (Swana) and their children, and Wendy's
cousin Todd (Nancy) and their children. He was predeceased by his father
Alvin (1992) and mother-in-law Lorraine (1997) and father-in-law Jack
(1995). There are many extended family members and friends on both sides.
Rod's passion outside of his family was motorcycling. As the owners and
operators of the Comox Valley Driving School, which they started prior to
his retirement, Rod and Wendy have taught over 2,500 riders from one tip of
Vancouver Island to the other. Nothing could bring a smile to his face and
brighten his eyes as to be able to pass on his love of riding to new riders.
His professionalism, sensitivity to new riders concerns, and easy manner
allowed many to accomplish their goal of safe riding and also become
friends. Although he will be sadly missed, he will always be remembered by
all who knew him. A celebration of life service led by Father Ives will be
held on Thursday July 26, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Piercy's Funeral Home, 440
England Ave, Courtenay, BC. In lieu of flowers, Rod's family asks that
donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Fair winds and soft
landings, Jumper! 392559
