BOWMAN _ Jack Arthur We are saddened to announce the passing of Jack Arthur
Bowman on the morning of July 15th, 2007 at the young age of 52. Jack went
quickly and peacefully while next to the love of his life, Kelley (Avery). A
musician, mechanic, teacher, coach, husband, father and friend, Jack touched
the lives of everyone he met and leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion
and guidance. Jack attended Johnston Heights Jr. High and North Surrey
Secondary School as a young man and won several athletic awards and held
world records for his age bracket in track & field. He would later return
there in his adult years to become a teacher, coach several sports, and
become the head of the Counselling Department. In 2002, he came full circle
when he accepted a job at the school from which he graduated - North Surrey
Secondary. While there Jack passed along his extensive knowledge of cars and
racing as the coach of the school's Drag Racing team (he would later become
the President of the B.C. High School Drag Racing Association). He was also
the Principal of the Academic Summer School Program at North Surrey
Secondary. His passion and knowledge for baseball enabled him to train and
certify coaches for Baseball BC. His spirit is reflected in his three
children, eldest John (25) a world traveller and adventurer who was in South
America at the time of his father's passing, Janelle (23) his only daughter
who will be attending law school in the fall and made her father very proud
every step of the way, and youngest son Jordan (22) an actor and writer who
represents the humour and creativity displayed over the years by Jack.
Whether it be shooting pool with his sons, playing music with his brother-
in-law Dan, or rally racing with his friends from high school, Jack reminded
us all to live each day with a warm heart, clear mind, and a smile for those
we love. In the words of Jack: "Live your life, make your list, make your
memories." Join us in a "Celebration of Jack" on Friday, August 10, 8 pm at

DAVIDSON _ Ian "This is your world - it is a feast. Look into the greatness
of the whole thing,...look, look...and then look further." Chogyam Trungpa,
(Tibetan Buddhist Philosopher.) Ian Davidson considered his life to be "a
journey of discovery of the visual world." On July 22nd, that journey came
to an end. Ian died at St. Paul's Hospital after a brief illness, a day
after his 82nd birthday. It was a journey that took him to the four corners
of the globe, encompassed eight decades and was peppered with the colorful
and often famous characters of the art world that shaped the artistic tastes
of the 20th century. He was a man who looked carefully at his world and saw
much that interested him. He remained powerful and feisty to the end, his
courage and grace touching those who surrounded him. Ian was a graduate of
Trinity College, Royal Roads Naval College and The University of British
Columbia. He is survived by his brother Derek and wife Helen, his nephews
Jim and Hugh and wives Lori and Bonnie and his niece Susan, his grand-nieces
and nephews, Nicole, Natalie, Cameron and Leah who remember him fondly for
his passion and eccentricities. He began his professional life in
partnership with his father Jocelyn Davidson and in 1976 began a long and
distinguished career in the Architectural partnership of Davidson Johnston
Architects with Douglas Johnston, with whom he had a happy and productive
working relationship. As a leader of Canada's artistic community, Ian's
civic contributions were considerable and varied. He was a member of the
Vancouver and West Vancouver civic design panels and a fellow of the Royal
Architectural Institute of Canada. He served as a director of the Vancouver
Art Gallery, the Contemporary Art Gallery as well as the Advisory Board of
the National Gallery of Canada, the City of Vancouver Special Committee on
the Arts, the B.C. Place Citizens Advisory committee and the Canadian
Cultural Property Review Board. He guest lectured at various Architectural
schools in Canada and internationally and was a special consultant to the
Banff Centre and the Canada Council. Mr. Davidson also served on the Board
of Directors of the Seattle Art Fair and was the recipient of the Seattle
Art Fair "Art Leadership Award" in 1995. Ian was an avid and astute
collector of Art and a champion of many emerging artists. In addition to
contributions of time, Ian left a rich endowment of Art to a number of
public Institutions including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver General
Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital. It is however his friends who were the
greatest beneficiaries of his generosity, as his greatest pleasure in the
feast of life, was to share the bounty of his remarkable vision. He will be
remembered as thoughtful and loving; a man of enormous charm, wit and
knowledge, but most of all for his childlike delight and infectious laughter
a comedy of divine attributes. Goodbye dear friend. Memorial donations can
be made to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation Art Program at www.helpstpauls.com
or 604-682-8206. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Ian's
life at the Elliott Louis Gallery, The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd
Avenue, Vancouver on Friday, August 10th, 7 - 10 pm. RSVP appreciated (but

DOMAN _ HARBANSE (HERB) SINGH Herb passed away peacefully at the Cowichan
District Hospital on July 25, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones.
Predeceased by his father Doman Singh, his mother Purab Kaur, his brother
Gurdial (Gordy) and his sister Harbans Kaur (Bonso). Herb leaves behind his
loving wife of 52 years, Harjinder (Helen), daughters Darcia, Sherry,
Verinda and son Jaspaul (Ricky), brother Didar (Ted), sister Mahinder Kaur,
grandson Jeevan and granddaughters Natasha, Sienna and Jennece. Following
the death of his father, Herb at age 12 went to work to support his family.
Starting with a dream, one small truck hauling fuel and lumber, he created a
successful trucking company, building supply stores and lumber yards, going
on to found Doman Industries in 1955. After taking the company public in
1964, Herb built his first sawmill in 1968 which led to the establishment of
a fully integrated forest products empire of sawmills, pulp mills and
logging operations. As founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Doman
Industries Limited, for fifty years he provided over 5,000 forestry related
jobs for BC families. Herb Doman was a man of great courage, honor and
integrity; he was known for his heart felt generosity and service to his
community; a true pillar of the Cowichan Valley. Herb lived by his own set
of values: loyalty and devotion to his family, the community and respect for
his employees. They were his strength and motivation. His determination,
strong business ethics and respect for his employees contributed to his
success. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and remembered as a great
man who was loved by all. The family would like to express a special thank
you to Doctors Toyota, Gloster, Roy, Spence and Pewarchuk, all the nursing
and support staff at the Cowichan District Hospital's emergency ward and 2nd
floor for the special care and support given to Mr. Doman. A very special

DORUITER _ Jacob (Jake) November 23, 1969 - July 23, 2007 Jacob (Jake)
Doruiter passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007 at the age of 37 years. Jake
was born in the small town of Nederhemert, The Netherlands on November 23,
1969. The whole family immigrated to Chilliwack, Canada in 1981 when he was
just eleven. From there they moved to Sarnia, ON, then Chicago, IL,
Edmonton, AB, before settling in Calgary in 1991. Graduating from the
University of Calgary, he then established a successful career as a
geophysicist. Jake's spirited nature was reflected in his many loves;
travelling the globe, preparing delicious meals, bowling and gaming with
friends and singing with the Men's choir. Jake was an extremely generous
person by nature, always finding ways to spoil his friends and especially
his nephews. Seeing the big smiles on their faces was reason enough for him
to put others needs ahead of his own. In the recent past, he battled
courageously with cancer and beat it. Even though it returned this year, he
did not let it interfere with his concerns for those around him. From our
hearts, we say to you our dear son, brother and friend; we will miss you
dearly until we are able to meet again in another place that will hold
better things for all us. Jake is lovingly remembered by his parents, Gerrit
and Gerrie Doruiter; his sister Corinne and brother Frank (Ronda); and his
nephews Max, Gerrit and Josh. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS &
HOLLOWAY'S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on

2007 at Peace Arch Hospital, at 87 years of age, after a short but
courageous battle with cancer. Loving her and missing her deeply are her
daughter Marilyn de Goutiere, son-in-law Robin, and granddaughter Tara. She
is also survived by her son Bruno Samborsky (Judy), granddaughter Leanne
(Stephan), and great-grandchildren Aleisha and Adrielle. She is predeceased
by her brother Dan and her grandson Todd. She was born in a tent on the side

settlers Pauline and Nickolas Dyrda. She spent her childhood on the family
farm in Rycroft, Alberta, moving to New Westminster, BC in the 1940's. She
worked very hard for most of her life, first on the farm, then struggling as
a single mother to raise both her son Bruno and daughter Marilyn. She
suffered the terrible loss of her beloved grandson Todd to a car accident on
June 23, 1985. In spite of her many hardships, Mary was always strong,
selfless, loving, caring, compassionate and cheerful, quick to help or
protect anyone in need, and always ready with a smile or a joke. Her last
twenty years were happy, peaceful, and well deserved. She lived in Ocean
Park, BC, close to her family, doting on her granddaughter Tara, gardening,
and spending time with her many close friends. All who knew her will

Christoph. As well, other family members in Switzerland and Sweden mourn her
passing. Hanny will be remembered as a vibrant passionate woman, as strong

JENNINGS _ Ebba Katharine (nee Ostrom) She came - gave a great light... Then
slipped so silently into the night. Ebba, eldest child of John and Anna
Ostrom, was born in Port Alberni on June 21, 1924 and died there on July 20,
2007 soon after her 83rd birthday. She was raised in Bamfield, with her
brothers Roald and Carl. Ebba married Leonard Jennings in 1946 and is
survived by their two daughters Suzanne and Katharine, and by nieces and
nephews, great nieces and nephews, one great-great niece and numerous
relatives spread about Canada. They, and a community of friends, will miss
her love, compassion and wisdom. Ebba was a legend among women on the west
coast. As a young woman, after her father became ill, she ran Ostrom's
Machine Shop in Bamfield -- the store, shop, fuel dock and the ways - until
her brothers and Len joined her. As a family "Ostrom's" proudly kept the
fishing fleet running and well supplied. Ebba was a creative bookkeeper and
who will ever forget her office with the files hanging off the wall and her
piled high desk where only she knew where things were? At the store she
dispensed coffee and conversation as well as hardware and fishing supplies.
Ebba had a strong passion for her community and its people. She received the
Queen's Golden Anniversary Medal, in 2002, for her long service contribution
to the Canadian Red Cross. Ebba also was instrumental in the building and
maintenance of the United Church and Hall in Bamfield. Ebba was 'Auntie' to
many. You were welcome at her house where the coffee pot was always on and
baking was on hand. Her generosity was abundant and her cooking skills
legendary. She collected friends, as well as bottles and beach-combed
objects, treasuring visits and news of ex-Bamfieldites. Ebba's passion for
flowers and plants led her to create a huge garden, clearing land by hand,
to fulfill her vision of a rhododendron woodland garden. The girls would
like to thank the nursing staff and Drs. Fraser and Lund for their
compassionate care of mum while she was at the WCGH in Port Alberni. And to
all the friends and family who phoned, visited, sent flowers and special
treats -- thank you. A farewell ceremony and celebration will be held in
August 18th at 1:00 p.m. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society.

NOAKES _ Lloyd Hamblet (Tiny) March 25, 1922 - July 19, 2007 Lloyd Hamblet
(Tiny) Noakes passed away peacefully on July 19, 2007 at Poplar Ridge,
Trail, BC. Lloyd was one of six children born to Leonard and Alice Noakes on
a farmstead near Keatley Saskatchewan. Lloyd was predeceased by his loving
wife of fifty years, Helen, in 1997. Left to mourn are their five children
Bev (Denny), Jim (Vikki), Les (Norma), John (Sharon), and Debra, brothers,
Len and Bill, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild and their spouses. Lloyd (Tiny) served in WWII with
the tank core and was a decorated war hero. Lloyd was a naive boy who went
to war, and Tiny, the complicated man that returned. Tiny was a front line
union organizer of Mine Mill and Tunnel and Rock Workers L.168. He worked on
major projects from Ripple Rock to the Peace River Project. His sparkling
eyes, laughed as he rallied during a debate. Whether leading men out of a
shaft on a "wild cat strike", sharing a beer with "Tramp Miners" in the bar
or arguing a better deal for workers during collective agreement
negotiations, Tiny knew how to use his quick wit and sly humour to make his
point. Always bubbling just below the surface was a mind ready and willing
to take on the world with rye wit and intellectual superiority. Tiny was a
member of the C.C.F. and a pioneer member of the N.D.P. A strong critic,
Tiny never missed an opportunity to tell NDP MPs, MLA and, yes, even our NDP
Premier, what they should be doing for "the working class". Tiny's sparkling
eyes, quick wit and intellect will be missed by all. Finally Peace. In lieu
of flowers, donations in Tiny's memory may be made to the BC Coalition of

REMILLARD _ EDWARD JOSEPH It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of Ed Remillard in New Westminster B.C. on July 11, 2007. Ed was
born January 12, 1934 in New Westminster, B.C. and was predeceased by his
parents Joseph and Emelia Remillard, his brother Henry Remillard, and his 3
sisters, Marguerite (infant), Olive Stephenson, and Gertie Benson. He is
survived by his loving wife Norah, his daughter Margo Ray (Brian), son Brad
Remillard, grandsons Keaton and Sheldon Ray; step children Elaine Benner,
Maureen Choudhury (Paul), John Benner; step grandchildren Thomas and Matthew
Bigford, Angela and Sarah Choudhury; brother Robert Remillard (Margaret);
many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ed grew up in Maillardville where he
enjoyed happy school days and had a passion for athletics. He was a
compassionate and hardworking young man who strived to help his mother
financially after his father passed away in 1952. He delivered newspapers at
Fraser Mills and sold Regal cards along his route. As an adult Ed worked for
several years at Fraser Mills and then at School District #43 (Coquitlam)
until his retirement in 1996, due to illness. Ed was a very caring and
loving father who placed his children Margo and Brad first. He was very
involved in their sports activities - hockey for Brad and baseball for
Margo. They enjoyed many happy summer holidays in Penticton at the beach
with their dad. Ed was much admired and loved by Norah's children. When he
joined Norah's family, he told them that he wouldn't try to take their
deceased father's place, however, he would try to be there for them. During
Ed's illness, Elaine spent many hours helping him with his meals and
visiting, for which he was grateful. For many years Ed coached an all girls
softball team with his friend Gary Guraliuk, taking them to numerous
tournaments. The team went on to win the Canadian Cup in 1983 in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan! Ed also curled for many years at the Poirier Rec Centre in
Coquitlam with the Monday Night Team and the Hangover Club on Sundays.
Post-game socializing with his friends and their wives was the highlight of
these events. Ed's favourite sport was hockey and he never missed Hockey
Night in Canada and rarely missed a game on TV always rooting for the
Canucks of course. Ed and Norah enjoyed many beautiful cruises and holidays
including Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and the Cook Islands. Their
favourite get-away was Yellow Point Lodge, near Ladysmith, where Ed's ashes
will be spread in the fall. During Ed's stay in hospital the last few
months, he was very grateful for the visits and care from friends and
family. Many thanks to Gina Branstrom for always being there to lend an
early morning hand. Ed was loved by all who knew him and he will be sadly
missed. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ed
can be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation. Grief is not forever -
but love is.

SANDSTROM _ Erik Gustuv July 25, 1923 - July 25, 2007 With great sadness we
announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great
grandfather. Erik was born in Solleftea, northern Sweden. As eldest son, he
helped his Mother raise the family through the depression. He served in the
Swedish military during WWII and post war, earned his degree in Civil
Engineering. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, and spent his career "in the
field" building BC's dams and dykes. Upon arrival in BC, he met and married
Lorraine, who was his constant companion for the next 50 years. Central to
Erik's being was his love of the outdoors. He had passion for skiing, hiking
and sailing, always best done with family that continued into his 80s. He
was ever exploring and always inquisitive. We will cherish the memory of his
humor, honesty, warm affection and amazing will. In lieu of flowers,
donations to the BC Cancer Association would be appropriate.

SAPERS _ (Saperstein), Edward: On July 18, 2007 in the Surrey Memorial
Hospital with his beloved wife of 60 years Phyllis by his side. Brother of
Harold and the late Mitchell. Father of Sandra, Steve and Howard.
Father-in-law of Barry Robertson, Debra Jackson, Linda Dabros, Shiela Phipps
and the late Shannon Barr. Zaidy to Benjamin and Zachary Sapers, Haley,
Jeremy and Vaughn Sapers and Quinn Dabros. Ed lived his 81 years with
passion and zest surviving heart attacks, prostate cancer and diabetes until
leukemia finally overwhelmed him. His love of good Chinese food and fine
Cuban cigars was only surpassed by his deep love for his wife, children and
grandchildren. Ed was a self taught history scholar, a movie afficienado and
a life-long student of the human condition. His wisdom was oft times shared
too directly, but his generosity of spirit knew no bounds. We are all much
richer for having loved and been loved by this wonderful man. The family
thanks the staff of South 1 and request that donations be sent to the Surrey
Memorial Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers. To celebrate Ed's life,
there will be a memorial at the home of Steve Sapers and Debra Jackson,

TRACEY _ Jocelyn L. December 1, 1956 - July 20,2007 It is with incredible
heartache & sorrow that we have to announce the passing of our beloved Joss.
Remarkable sister to Sheila, best friend of Karen, Jeanne, Doc and Wilma,
and sister-in-law to Katie. If you knew her you would know how difficult
this is. She touched so many people in so many walks of life. After an
extremely long and courageous battle with a very rare blood disease, she is
now at peace with her Mom and Dad and her beloved Corby who was waiting for
her. Joss orchestrated her own life right down to her final moments. She
left this world at home with people she loved holding her hands. She had
such a love for her friends and family. She never came first. Each and
everyone who knew her have their own Joss story. Her love for the arts and
photography showed in her life. She could take you in and would hold you
there for the rest of your life. She had been suffering for far too long and
now she is in her studio in the sky. A good one got away from us this time
but we will see her again. She had her wake before she left so please just
take a moment in your day to remember a wonderful person. Tell your family
and friends you love them. Peace.
