ANDRADE Ilda da Silva Passed away peacefully at Oak Bay Lodge on July 24,
2007. She went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 86 years. Born
in Acores, Portugal on January 20, 1921, she was predeceased by her husband,
Manuel, in 2004. Lovingly remembered by her daughters, Aida, Anna (Jose),
Maria (Joe); grandchildren, Mike (Margaret), Arthur (Shelley), Sonya
(Shawn), Victor (Nicki) and Nancy; great-grandchildren, Lexy, Jesse, Erika,
Ciara and Cade. The family wish to thank all the great staff that took care
of our Grandma at the Oak Bay Lodge. We thank you from the bottom of our
hearts. Special thanks to Dr. Greenwood for all his care. Prayers will be
offered from OUR LADY OF FATIMA CHURCH, 4635 Elk Lake Drive on Sunday, July
29th at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father

BADMINTON, Duane Leslie October 3, 1967 July 25, 2007 Passed away at home
after his brave battle with cancer. Predeceased by his father Eric. Survived
by his partner and soul mate Matthew Pope, loving mother Virginia Little
(Don), sister and best friend Susan Fox, nephews Travis and Ryan. He also
leaves behind uncles, aunts and cousins plus many special friends and
co-workers. Duane loved his garden and requested that in lieu of flowers,

BOUFFARD, Pauline (previously Saby, nee Evanson) Born February 10, 1933 died
July 21, 2007. Our mother and beloved Baba left us suddenly and quite
unexpectedly in Victoria, BC. She leaves behind five loving children, Rick
Saby (Claire, Angelsea, Theresa & Jennifer); Wayne Saby (Joan); Darrell Saby
(Ellen, Jesse, Keegan, Nikolas, Katrina, Lisa, Candace); Debbie Lowther
(Max, Blair, Candice, Cameron great grandchildren Jordan and Emily; Brian
Saby (Theresa & Jamie). Death brings a heartbreak that no one can heal but

CATTO, Barbara Jean (nee Thomson) With great sadness, we announce the death
of our Mom, Jean Catto, who passed away quietly at home, surrounded by her
children, on Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Born on May 14, 1931, Mom grew up in
Port Credit, Ontario. Following graduation from the University of Toronto in
1952, Mom married our Dad, James Arthur Catto on June 26, 1954. Although
Port Credit was home, Mom's heart was in Muskoka where she and Dad spent
many magical seasons. After our Dad died in 1984, Mom moved north to Muskoka
in 1986. For 15 years the cottage, the lake, the mergansers, the white pines
and the beautiful rocks of Muskoka provided a sanctuary and served as a
welcoming refuge for her far-flung kids and many other family members and
friends. In 2001, Mom moved west to Victoria, BC to be closer to kids and
grandkids, and her new view of the Olympic Mountains across the waters of
the Juan de Fuca provided much comfort. We feel very fortunate that
following a short illness, Mom was able to spend her final days at home,
surrounded by all of her children, close family and friends. Mom will be
sadly missed by her children: Joanne, of North Yorkshire, England; Babs, of
Victoria, BC; and Steve, of Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories. Also
grieving her passing are sons-in-law, Colin Griffith and David Vernon, her
grandchildren Ben, Andrew, Jack and Julia, her sister Peggy Elliott of North
Carolina, and so many other dear family and friends. Please help us
celebrate Mom's life during a casual open-house to be held on Thursday,
August 02, 2007 between 2-4 PM, at 3696-1507 Queensbury Avenue, Victoria. At

CHILDERHOSE , Ernest Roy February 3, 1920 July 22, 2007 of Rosser, Manitoba
passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria BC, at the
age of 87 years. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Verna (Siegel); brother
Dan and sister Doreen (Keith). He is survived and lovingly remembered by his
three children, Ron of Rosser, MB, Caren Pedron (Jerry) of Calgary, AB and
Glenn of Comox, BC. Dad was born in the community of Rosser, Manitoba,
living most of his working life there. His service in WWII with the RCAF saw
him stationed in both the Queen Charlotte Islands and Pat Bay on Vancouver
Island. In 1951, Ernie married Verna Siegel and they moved to the family
farm where they raised their children and broadened the farming operation.
Ernie was a proud husband and father who gave his time wholeheartedly to the
Rosser community. Mom and Dad retired to Victoria in 1990. In 2000, Ernie
and his family celebrated attaining Century Farm status. Dad will be
remembered and missed by all those who were fortunate to know him. The
family is appreciative of the kindness extended by Dad's friends and
Victoria's health care professionals. Cremation has taken place and a
private family interment is planned. Friends and family are invited to a
gathering on Saturday, August 11, from noon until 4:00 pm in the Vista 18
Harbour Room at the Chateau Victoria, 740 Burdett Ave., Victoria, BC to

DELIVA, Kevin Gordon November 28, 1961 July 21, 2007 Kevin was born in
Quebec and left home at the age of 16, travelling back and forth across
Canada, living in many different places. Eventually he arrived in Victoria,
where he gathered many friends and family. For the last 2 years, he and his
wife, along with their felines, have called Shawnigan Lake their home. Kevin
will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered for his big-heart, his
mischievous sense of humour, his loyalty and devotion to his family, and for
his love of animals and the outdoors. He leaves behind a long list of
family, friends and felines who are saddened at the far too brief privilege
of having him as a part of their lives. A casual gathering for family and
friends to share Kevin Stories" will be held at the Langford Legion, 761
Station Avenue, on Monday July 30th, 2007, from 2 to 5 pm. In lieu of

DOMAN, Harbanse (Herb) Singh Herb passed away peacefully at the Cowichan
District Hospital on July 25, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones.
Predeceased by his father Doman Singh, his mother Purab Kaur, his brother
Gurdial (Gordy) and his sister Harbans Kaur (Bonso). Herb leaves behind his
loving wife of 52 years, Harjinder (Helen), daughters Darcia, Sherry,
Verinda and son Jaspaul (Ricky), brother Didar (Ted), sister Mahinder Kaur,
grandson Jeevan and granddaughters Natasha, Sienna and Jennece; as well as
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Following the death
of his father, Herb at age 12 went to work to support his family. Starting
with a dream, one small truck hauling fuel and lumber, he created a
successful trucking company, building supply stores and lumber yards, going
on to found Doman Industries in 1955. After taking the company public in
1964, Herb built his first sawmill in 1968 which led to the establishment of
a fully integrated forest products empire of sawmills, pulp mills and
logging operations. As founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Doman
Industries Limited, for fifty years he provided over 5000 forestry related
jobs for BC families. Herb Doman was a man of great courage, honor and
integrity; he was known for his heart felt generosity and service to his
community; a true pillar of the Cowichan Valley. Herb lived by his own set
of values: loyalty and devotion to his family, the community and respect for
his employees. They were his strength and motivation. His determination,
strong business ethics and respect for his employees contributed to his
success. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and remembered as a great
man who was loved by all. The family would like to express a special thank
you to Doctors Toyota, Gloster, Roy, Spence and Pewarchuk, all the nursing
and support staff at the Cowichan District Hospital's emergency ward and 2nd
floor for the special care and support given to Mr. Doman. A very special
thank you to Herb's in home caregivers; Kate, Michelle, Laurie, Sheila and
Linda. A Celebration of Herb's life will be held in the New Life Baptist
Church, 1839 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan, BC on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 10:30
a.m. Cremation at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens followed by a Service at
Paldi Temple. Friends are invited to the family home following the service
for a time of refreshment and reflection. In lieu of flowers the family

EINARSON, Margaret Zita In loving memory of our mother, Margaret Zita
Einarson born March 2, 1919 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan. Passed away July 25,
2007 in Victoria, British Columbia. She will be dearly missed by her
children: Lois Rupps (Will); Evelyn Evans; Earl (Brenda), David (Michelle);
Mary Oliver; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great great
granchild; her sister and best friend Francis Parker and numerous nieces,
nephews, friends and relatives. A special thanks to all the loving

ELLIS, William George Levi Passed away suddenly in Port Alberni, B.C. on
July 25, 2007. He was born in Victoria, BC on June 27, 1981. He is survived
by his loving parents, Mary and Jim; sisters, Bethany and Laura and many
extended family and friends. Levi will be dearly missed by all who loved and

FARNDEN, David Dave passed away quietly after a brief illness on July 26,
2007. He is survived by Audrey, his wife of 51 years, children Gary
(Sylvia-Anne), Craig (Heather) and Rosanne (Jim) Lyster, grandchildren,
Sarah, Laura, Cameron, Meaghan, Michael, Margaret, Jeremy and Katherine,
sisters, Olive (Cliff) Bell, Isabelle Harrison, Ena Banks and Kay Sweet, and
sisterin-law Sheila (Claude) Bugslag. He is predeceased by brothers, Art,
Dan, Bob and Fred, and grandson Eric. Dave was born in Manson, Manitoba and
grew up in Alameda, Saskatchewan. He studied pharmacy at the University of
Saskatchewan, and moved to Victoria in 1957. Dave's life was marked by
service and caring. As a pharmacist, he served his customers with
dedication, personal attention and care. A man of deep faith in Jesus
Christ, he was a leader in his church and an active volunteer. Always a
devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was loving, gentle, and loyal.
His life in the community extended to foster parenting, driving for cubs and
scouts, and serving on executive committees for the Prostate Cancer Support
Association and the Mavericks Square Dance Club. He was quick to offer a
helping hand wherever it was needed. While Dave's first passion far beyond
anything else was family, he also enjoyed camping, golf, square dancing, and
Jazz Fest. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 2 pm
at Centennial United Church, 649 Gorge Road East. In lieu of flowers,

FIELDHOUSE, Eileen May December 9, 1931 July 26, 2007 Eileen (nee Quinlan)
was born in Feltham, Middlesex, England. She was predeceased by her father,
Alfred in 1961, her mother, Ann in 1995 and her husband Leonard Fieldhouse
in 2000. Eileen and her mother immigrated to Canada in 1963 settling in the
Peterborough area where Eileen worked for the Bank of Montreal. In 1972 she
and her mother moved to Victoria where she continued working at the Bank of
Montreal and later at the Provincial Ministry of Finance. In 1978 she
married Leonard Fieldhouse and following their retirements, she and Len
became enthusiastic Cruisers, making many trips and friends traveling
through the Panama Canal and other warm tropical climes. Last February,
Eileen voyaged up the Amazon River but it was to be her last and she was
comforted in Victoria Hospice after a long struggle with cancer. She is
survived by Len's three children, numerous step-grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. No service or flowers by request, but donations in her

GUBBELS, Anthony (Tony) Passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2007
surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on February 20, 1937 in
Victoria, BC. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Raili, sons Scott
and Brent and daughter-in-law Michelle. He is also survived by his siblings
Mia, Cleo (Margaret), Dodie, Gerry (Margaret), Peter (Milla), Joe, John
(Sue), Tom (Pat), Fred (Penny) and Betje, his cousin Cleo (Joan), and many
nieces and nephews. Tony will be forever remembered for enjoying life to the
fullest, celebrating the best in everyone, and for his unfailing generosity.
He was an exceedingly patient, kind and honest man. Tony never hesitated to
welcome people into his life as though they were part of his family and
always had the most wonderful smile on his face, no matter what the

JENNINGS, Ebba Katharine (nee Ostrom) She came gave a great light Then
slipped so silently into the night. Ebba, eldest child of John and Anna
Ostrom, was born in Port Alberni on June 21, 1924 and died there on July 20,
2007 soon after her 83rd birthday. She was raised in Bamfield, with her
brothers Roald and Carl. Ebba married Leonard Jennings in 1946 and is
survived by their two daughters Suzanne and Katharine, and by nieces and
nephews, great nieces and nephews, one great-great niece and numerous
relatives spread about Canada. They, and a community of friends, will miss
her love, compassion and wisdom. Ebba was a legend among women on the west
coast. As a young woman, after her father became ill, she ran Ostrom's
Machine Shop in Bamfield -the store, shop, fuel dock and the ways until her
brothers and Len joined her. As a family Ostrom's" proudly kept the fishing
fleet running and well supplied. Ebba was a creative bookkeeper and who will
ever forget her office with the files hanging off the wall and her `piled
high' desk where only she knew where things were? At the store she dispensed
coffee and conversation as well as hardware and fishing supplies. Ebba had a
strong passion for her community and its people. She received the Queen's
Golden Anniversary Medal, in 2002, for her long service contribution to the
Canadian Red Cross. Ebba also was instrumental in the building and
maintenance of the United Church and Hall in Bamfield. Ebba was `Auntie' to
many. You were welcome at her house where the coffee pot was always on and
baking was on hand. Her generosity was abundant and her cooking skills
legendary. She collected friends, as well as bottles and beach-combed
objects, treasuring visits and news of ex-Bamfieldites. Ebba's passion for
flowers and plants led her to create a huge garden, clearing land by hand,
to fulfill her vision of a rhododendron woodland garden. The girls would
like to thank the nursing staff and Drs. Fraser and Lund for their
compassionate care of mum while she was at the WCGH in Port Alberni. And to
all the friends and family who phoned, visited, sent flowers and special
treats thank you. A farewell ceremony and celebration will be held in August
18th at 1:00 p.m. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Canadian

PARKINSON, Thomas Albert January 29, 1923 July 25, 2007 It is with great
regret that we announce the passing of Thomas Albert Parkinson. He passed
away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital on July 25, 2007. Tom was born January
29, 1923 in London, Ontario. Predeceased by father Albert, mother Winifred,
brother Ken and sister June. He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley,
daughter Deborah, sons Robert (Joyce), Terrance (Margaret) and three
granddaughters Kirby, Shelby and Nadine.Tom retired from the Royal Canadian
Navy in 1973 after a 30 year career. There will be no service at Tom's

STEVENS, John Cameron (Jack) On July 21 2007 Jack passed away with his
family at his side in Prince George. Jack was born 29 May 1947 and grew up
in Victoria. He leaves behind his wife, Donada, daughters, Linda and Tanya
(Tim Boyce) and son Rob (Ronda Schick). He will be sadly missed by all,
including his mother, Lorna Stevens, sisters Judy and Gail, brothers Don and
Paul. Jack worked for many years for BC Hydro and loved the outdoors. No

SZABADOS, Zoltan Steve June 5, 1928 July 24, 2007 Zoli passed away
peacefully at Sunset Lodge, Victoria, BC, with family at his side. He was
born in Markaz, Hungary. At the age of 3, he journeyed to Canada with his
mother, Helen, to join his father, Steve who had arrived earlier to
establish a farm near Edgerton, Alberta. Zoli farmed near Edgerton with his
family until 1980 when he retired to Victoria, living in Metchosin, North
Saanich, Sidney, and Esquimalt. He enjoyed curling, woodworking, and sharing
jokes and laughter with friends and family. Zoli is survived by his wife,
Edna Szabados, daughters Terry (Robbie), Cindy (Grant), and grandchildren,
Candice (Chris), Ryan (Keri), Wendy (Dave) and Ian, and great-grandson,
Rhys. He was predeceased by his son, Randy, in 1975, and son-in-law, Robert,
in 2003. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the
outstanding care provided by staff at the Jubilee Hospital and Sunset Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed by the Salvation Army or the
charity of your choice. A celebration of Zoli's life will be held at Sunset

WALCOT, Margaret Ethel Born in Eriksdale, Manitoba, June 8, 1917. Passed
away suddenly in Victoria on July 25, 2007. Survived by her loving husband
John, her son, William Eassie and Pat, her grandchildren, Jennifer Gamble
and Mike, Heather Granger and Peter, Stephen Eassie and Nancy. Six great
grandchildren; Kurtis, Chelsea, Devon, Kayleigh, Scott and Courtney. Sister
Cora and brothers Edward and Albert. Devoted to her family and friends, she
has touched the hearts of many and will be remembered for her compassion to
others and for her beautiful smile. She will be sadly missed. Memorial
Services will be held at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver
Streets, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 3:00 pm with a reception to follow in
