BALATSAS _ Leo (Leonidas) Born on February 26, 1928 in Arkitsa, Lokridos,
Greece. Passed away peacefully on July 27, 2007 in the presence of his
loving family. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years Elizabeth;
daughters Eleni and Nikki and her husband Dennis; grandchildren Dimitri and
Elissa. Survived by his brother, sister, nieces and nephews and many
friends. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 7:30 pm at St.
George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver. A funeral
service will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 12:00 Noon. Burial to
follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby. Father Demetrios Partsafas
officiating.

CAUNTER _ Terence Christopher Allan April 30, 1982 - July 19, 2007 Chris was
involved in a fatal motorcycle accident west of Salmon Arm at Blind Bay on
the Trans-Canada Highway. Born and raised in Vancouver, in 1996 Chris moved
with his family to Costa Rica where he attended the American International
School and became fluent in Spanish. Chris loved to compose Alternative Hip
Hop Music, spend time with his dog, Bart, snowboard, work out at the gym and
ride his Harley with friends. He will be dearly missed by his family and
friends. He is survived by his loving mother, Melinda Whitaker and William
Taylor, his grandparents Doris and Terry Whitaker, his Uncle Liam and Aunt
Colleen Whitaker, cousins Samantha and Cameron, his father Gerry Caunter,
grandmother Verna Caunter, his brother Drew and Mika Caunter, nephew Beket,
nieces Megan and Mayumi, Aunt Marcia and Uncle B Nerenberg and family. And
friends too numerous to count. Chris, you were a blazing comet who loved
life and lived it to the fullest; a free spirit. Thank you for so many
brilliant moments - we love you always! A family celebration of Chris' life
will be announced at a later date.

CHAN _ Lap Yu (Grace) Tragically on July 26th, 2007, Grace, beloved wife of
Paul Molund passed away at Vancouver General Hospital. Grace will be greatly
missed by her husband Paul and their cat "Cookie". She is survived by father
Lai Kun, mother Chan Wai Shum, brother John and sister Andie (Poon Lai
Shun). Grace will also be fondly remembered by Paul's parents Vicktor and
Christiane Molund, brother and sisters, aunts, nieces and nephews. Grace was
born February 17, 1958 in Hong Kong and moved to Canada in the early 1980's
to pursue a Masters Degree in Pharmaceutical science at the University of
Saskatoon followed by a PHD in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of
British Columbia. She worked as a Post Doctoral Associate at Triumph / UBC
for 10 years, co-authoring many scientific papers. Grace continued her
education by attaining her CGA and finished in the top ten. She worked for
the Vice President of Research at UBC until her untimely death. Grace had
many hobbies and was known for her impromptu magic shows, hand made origami
cards and piano playing to name a few. Grace loved to travel and most
recently spent a beautiful holiday in the Caribbean with her husband Paul.
Special thanks for the overwhelming support from friends, family and
colleagues this past week. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday,
August 1, 2007 at Lord's Grace Church, 2396 W. 8th Avenue at 10:00 am. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Grace's memory to Lord's Grace
Church (memorial fund) or a charity of your choice. "I miss you and love you

CLARK _ John Allan John passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26 at
Broadmead Lodge. "Big John" was born in Saskatoon on December 14, 1925. He
was predeceased by his loving wife Elaine in 1997, brother Don, and sisters
Betty and Jean. He will be lovingly remembered by his three sons Bob (Eva),
Tim (Margaret) and Don (Charlita), granddaughters Pam, Tracey, Danielle,
Terry, grandson Kyle and great-grandsons Tyler and Ethan. John served
proudly in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. After the war ended he moved
to Victoria where he quickly made a name for himself as a high-scoring
center in local basketball circles. It was through his basketball exploits
that John met his wife Elaine who was a basketball star at Victoria High
School at the time. They married in 1950 and had three boys. John and his
family moved to North Vancouver in 1961 where he continued to work for B.C.
Forest Products until his retirement in 1985. He was admired by his
customers and co-workers alike during his time there. He continued his
basketball pursuits in Vancouver as a coach in junior men's basketball for
many years. John and Elaine were avid golfers and moved to Courtenay in 1992
where they met many friends on the golf courses there over the years. John
also had a great passion for singing, especially barbershop, and was a
long-standing member of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. In his final days he enjoyed
singing duets with the music staff at Broadmead Lodge. Many thanks to the
wonderful caring staff at The Lodge on Broadmead and a special heartfelt
thanks to John's close friends Howard and Connie Tooby for all their
tireless help and the companionship that made John's final years all the
more enjoyable. A service will be held at First Memorial Burial Park, 4725
Falaise Drive, Victoria V8Y 1B4 on Friday, August 3 at 2:00 PM, reception to
follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to
the charity of choice.

DOMAN _ HARBANSE (HERB) SINGH Herb passed away peacefully at the Cowichan
District Hospital on July 25, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones.
Predeceased by his father Doman Singh, his mother Purab Kaur, his brother
Gurdial (Gordy) and his sister Herbans Kaur (Bonso). Herb leaves behind his
loving wife of 52 years, Harjinder (Helen), daughters Darcia, Sherry,
Verinda and son Jaspaul (Ricky), brother Didar (Ted), sister Mahinder Kaur,
grandson Jeevan, granddaughters Natasha, Sienna and Jennece as well as
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Following the death
of his father, Herb at age 12 went to work to support his family. Starting
with a dream, one small truck hauling fuel and lumber, he created a
successful trucking company, building supply stores and lumber yards, going
on to found Doman Industries in 1955. After taking the company public in
1964, Herb built his first sawmill in 1968 which led to the establishment of
a fully integrated forest products empire of sawmills, pulp mills and
logging operations. As founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Doman
Industries Limited, for fifty years he provided over 5,000 forestry related
jobs for BC families. Herb Doman was a man of great courage, honor and
integrity; he was known for his heart felt generosity and service to his
community; a true pillar of the Cowichan Valley. Herb lived by his own set
of values: loyalty and devotion to his family, the community and respect for
his employees. They were his strength and motivation. His determination,
strong business ethics and respect for his employees contributed to his
success. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and remembered as a great
man who was loved by all. The family would like to express a special thank
you to Doctors Toyota, Gloster, Roy, Spence and Pewarchuk, all the nursing
and support staff at the Cowichan District Hospital's emergency ward and 2nd
floor for the special care and support given to Mr. Doman. A very special
thank you to Herb's in home caregivers; Kate, Michelle, Laurie, Sheila and
Linda. A Celebration of Herb's life will be held in the New Life Baptist
Church, 1839 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan, BC on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 10:30
a.m. Cremation at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens followed by a Service at
Paldi Temple. Friends are invited to the family home following the service

GASPARINI _ Cesarina, of Vancouver, B.C., formerly of Mogliano, Venezia,
Italy, passed away on July 29, 2007, age 93 years. Survived by her brother;
Rino, sister; Adalgisa, both in Italy, several nieces and nephews. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 1st at

GOCCH _ Dayyole Born March 19, 1922 in Ocean Falls, BC. Died gently July 25,
2007 in Lions Gate Hospital surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her
husband Loyd Goch in 1989 and her second husband Leagh Palmer in 1996.
Survived by her children Lanett (John) Barker, John (Mary), Randel (Lynda)
and Kelvan; her grandchildren Warren, Scott, Janet, Carrie, Jamie, Robyn,
Dawne and Gerald; her great-grandchildren Kelly, Abby, Lindsey, Ryan, Maddox
and Makenna; her sister Jean; her sister-in-law Ileane and many nieces and
nephews. Thank you to our cousin Leslie and all the caring staff at Lions
Gate Hospital who helped us and our Mom through the last days. Dayyole
worked for many years at the Bank of Montreal, continuing on even after
retirement age. She volunteered at Mollie Nye House. Her many friends and
family members' gardens benefited from her love of gardening. Dayyole was a
loving, caring and giving Mom and grandmother whose greatest joy was being
with and doing things for her family. She had a quirky sense of humour and a
joyful determined spirit. She looked for the best in others and always took
time for a friendly word whether with a friend or stranger. In lieu of
flowers and in honour of Dayyole, spend time with your family, smile at a
stranger, have lunch with a friend, admire the beauty that surrounds you.

JOHNSON _ Allan Vennard Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away
July 23, 2007 at Langley Memorial Hospital. Allan was born in Eriksdale,
Manitoba December 12, 1930 and is survived by his beloved wife Lois,
daughters Kathy and Tami, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many
more beloved family members. Allan was a kind and generous man with a ready

MALEK _ Joseph, aged 85 years, passed away at Langley, B.C. on July 18,
2007. He is sadly missed by his best friend June Barker; son Alard Malek

(Lindsie); step-grandchildren, Aaron and Kelly Bisson, and Charlene Ann

McSHERRY _ Lorna Lillian, born October 19, 1943 in Thunder Bay, Ontario,
passed away peacefully on July 27, 2007 in North Vancouver, British
Columbia. Lorna will be dearly missed by her loving family: husband Bernie;
children Dean (Debra), Darin (Ali), Darryl (Peter) and Stacy (Reid);
grandson Callum; sister Donna; sister-in-law Judy (Grant);
step-mother-in-law Clara; step-sister-in-law Caren; also many aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces, nephew and friends. Lorna showed great strength, generosity
and caring in her life. Fiercely devoted to family and friends, she put
others before herself. Lorna poured enormous energy and imagination into
countless special occasions, making sure that a good time was had by
everyone. Las Vegas was her home away from home where she met a second
family, including Vince, Clara and Dave and many friends, especially the
service staff at Harrah's. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday,
August 3 at 11:00am in the Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St,

Julie MORAES-CALDWELL April 30, 1938 - July 21, 2007 (nee BOSSONS) Julie
passed away Saturday, after her courageous fight with cancer. She is
predeceased by her first husband of 45 years, Daryl. Julie will be missed by
her mother Eleanor Malkin, brother John (Ila) Bossons, her husband and
companion of 5 years Richard; her children: Laia (Dave), Andrea, John
(Maxine), Keith (Mariah), and her grandchildren Jessica, Steven, Jillian,
Derian, Brendan and Kyanne. Always active in her communities, Julie was a
volunteer firefighter, and Paramedic Unit Chief in Sayward. A member of the
Quilters Guild, Rotary, Beta sigma Phi, Fellowship Baptist Church, past
owner of Amoraes Fashions, a Paramedic and a frequent seller of her
fantastic baked goods and vegetables at the farmers markets in Errington and
Qualicum. Julie retired from the B.C. Ambulance Service in 2005 after 22
years of service but furthered her education becoming a Pharmacy Assistant.
Julie will be missed by all whose lives she touched. God Speed Julie, we
miss you already. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday August
7, 2007 at Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, 550 N Pym Rd, Parksville
BC. Donations may be made in Julie's memory to Parksville Fellowship Baptist
Church designated for the Bethlehem Walk.

MURISON _ Louise Annie (nee Goodmurphy), born in Regina, September 4, 1914,
passed away at Noric House in Vernon on July 20, 2007. Much loved and sadly
missed by her family: daughter, Barbara (Edward) Cousins of Surrey; two
grandchildren, Katherine and John. Predeceased by her husband, Stan, in
1992. Mom lived a long full life. She enjoyed her garden and her many

O'BRIEN _ MARY RITA. On Friday, July 27, 2007, Rita passed away peacefully
in her home with her family by her side. Rita was predeceased by her
parents, John T. and Marcella O'Brien, brother, Lawrence O'Brien,
brother-in-law, John Overend and niece, Maureen O'Brien. Rita will be
lovingly remembered by her sisters, Sister Eleanor O'Brien (Sister Mary
Rita), and Catherine Overend; her brother Bert (Dorothy) O'Brien; her many
nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews, and several close friends. Rita
worked for most of her professional career in various positions at Canada
Trust in their Calgary and Vancouver offices. She loved to travel with
family and friends and especially enjoyed her visits to Palm Springs with
her sister and extended family. Rita was an avid reader and could be relied
upon to give an informed opinion on current events. She took pleasure in
following several sports over the years including curling and football.

PIFER _ John William Well known and loved media personality John William
Pifer, born July 7, 1946, in Calgary Alberta, passed peacefully and happily
into freedom, July 25, 2007 at the age of 61 in Vancouver B.C. The only son
of Doris Mary Pifer/Brooks. He has two older sisters, Ann and Christine. He
also has three step-sisters, Carol, Claudia, and Coralynn. John had the
opportunity to travel worldwide and has touched the lives of many. Please
feel welcome to join us in this "Celebration of Life" for John at the
Masonic Hall in Vancouver, 1495 W. 8th Ave., 4th floor, on Tuesday, July 31,

PINKARD _ Avchen (nee Harivel) passed away suddenly due to complications
from a medical issue on July 26, 2007 at St. Paul's Hospital. She was born
on June 15, 1974 in Vancouver. Predeceased by her infant daughter Abigail
Valerie-Jean. Avchen is survived by her husband, Jeff; her parents, Joan and
Colin; her grandma, Hylda Islaub; her brother Atticus, sister-in-law Renai
and their children Mitchell, Delaney, and Wyatt; her mother-in-law, Helen
Pinkard; four brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. She will also be missed
dearly by many uncles, aunts, cousins, close friends, and especially by her
dog, Denver. Avchen grew up in Vancouver, Telkwa, Smithers, Victoria, and
Sidney and lived her entire life with passion, integrity, honesty and
incredible spirit. One of her most inspiring gifts was her emotional
connection to those in her life. She dedicated herself to maintaining strong
bonds with both family and friends and her greatest joys involved bringing
people together in love and friendship. Avchen embraced her role as Aunty
with enthusiasm and dedication. The children in her life brought her much
joy and happiness. Avchen's love for travel and compassion for others
brought her to many different parts of the world where she immersed herself
in the culture and the community. She travelled both independently and with
close friends and family to China, Australia, Africa, Japan, and Europe.
Through her work at G.F. Strong as a physiotherapist working with
adolescents and young adults, she was able to fulfill her dream of impacting
those around her in a positive way and empowering others to reach their
potential. She showed her true tenacity and strength in everything she set
her mind to doing. Avchen loved the outdoors and being involved in both team
and individual sports. One of her proudest accomplishments in recent years
was conquering her fear of water. Not only did she develop a love for
swimming, but she then went on to compete in many triathlons and a half-Iron
Man. Avchen believed strongly in giving back to others. She volunteered with
numerous causes including: teaching dance at Kidco in Victoria; volunteering
as a trainer for the UBC Men's Basketball team while doing her degree;
assisting with the WC Race Series; travelling as an International Wheelchair
Athletics Classifier; helping at Mama Mercy orphanage in Africa where she
sang, danced, and loved the children who lived there; and sponsoring the
education of a child in Africa who had touched her heart during her travels.
Although there is much sorrow in her passing, Avchen deeply loved her
husband Jeff and the life they were building together as a family. All of
those touched by her will miss her warm, beautiful smile and will take
comfort from knowing that she lived her life fully and passionately. A
Memorial Service will be held at Coastal Church at 1160 West Georgia Street
in Vancouver, BC on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers,
donations will be made to Dada's Nest Orphanage in Kenya, Africa. For

ROMKEY _ Howard Chester passed away peacefully on July 27, 2007 in Burnaby,
BC at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Patricia. He will

RYLEY _ Maxine Ivy Mickie (nee Hawthorne) March 10, 1939 - July 26, 2007
Mickie passed away peacefully on a day with a beautiful blue sky after a
brief hospital stay. She was born in North Battleford Saskatchewan and grew
up in Vancouver. She ran a successful beauty salon in Burnaby until she
started her family. Mickie enjoyed spending time with her varied social
groups. She also volunteered many hours as a hairdresser at Burnaby
Hospital. She is predeceased by siblings Johnny, Keith, George, Irene and
Vic. Mickie will always be alive in the happy memories of her husband Barry,
daughter Colleen (Edwin), son Greg (Monique), granddaughters Kalen and
Erica, and many great relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be
held on Wednesday, August 1st, 2007 at 12:00 pm in the Burnaby Lake Rowing

STEELE _ Margaret Winifred (nee Payne) August 31, 1923 - July 27, 2007 It is
with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our cherished wife and
mother. Margaret slipped away after suffering a stroke the previous day. She
will be lovingly remembered by her husband Tom, son Murray (Anne Marie),
daughter Leslie (Mark), and grandsons Nikolas and Graeme. She will also be
dearly missed by her sisters, Dorie (John) and Eleanor (Al), their children
and grandchildren, and her many friends. Born in Vancouver and raised in
Woodfibre, BC, Margaret graduated from McGee High School and later worked at
the American Consulate in Vancouver. After her marriage to Tom in 1949, she
chose to devote the remainder of her life to home and family. In the years
after the war Margaret was an active member of the Mt. Seymour Ski Club. In
the 50's and 60's she volunteered her time with the Mary Matheson unit of
the Willingdon United Church. In the mid 70's she and Tom became very
involved in researching their family histories and joined the BC
Genealogical Society. Margaret devoted many voluntary hours to the society's
library in her 21 years as a member. She was an avid gardener and all will
remember Margaret's love of life, devotion to family, and her great sense of
humor. We are all the richer for having known and loved her. A Memorial
Service will be held at 3:00 on Friday, August 3rd at the Pitt Meadows
Heritage Church, 12109 Harris Rd. A reception will follow. In lieu of

STEELE _ Thomas Michael November 23, 1950 - July 28, 2007 Tom passed away
peacefully on July 28, 2007 at St. Michael's Hospice after a courageous
battle with cancer. Tom is survived by his son Mathew, his sisters Marg
Gaines (Ed), and Barbara McKay (John). He is also survived by his beloved
nephews, nieces, their children, his much loved Nanny, Thelma Taylor and
many friends. He was predeceased by his father Dr. David Steele, his mother
Dorothy, brothers David, John, Donald and sisters Betsy, Sue and Alix. Tom

STREET _ Alfred John April 16, 1924 to July 22, 2007 Alfred John Street
passed away peacefully at Sagebrush Lodge in Osoyoos, BC in the wonderful
care of staff there on July 22, 2007. He was born in Raydon, Alberta, April
16, 1924. He moved with his family to Vancouver and later resided in
Cloverdale, Quesnel and the Okanagan. He is predeceased by his sister Mary,
his ex-wife and friend Naomi and his son Patrick. Alfred is survived by sons
James, David (Cathy), Mike (Jennifer), Ken, Ron, Lennie (Michelle),
daughters Megan (Autumn), Kim (Tony), Sheila (Joe), Debbie (Les) and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers Gerry (Elsie), William
(Martha), Peter (Mary), Doc (June), cousins Art (Sheila) and Harold as well
as a large extended family that was very important to him. A Funeral Mass
will be held at All Saints Parish, 1405 Como Lake Avenue, Coquitlam on

WALSH _ Elizabeth Janet (nee Houston) July 23, 1916 - July 26, 2007 Survived
by her loving family, son Bill; daughter Betty; daughter-in-law Kirsten;
granddaughters Eileen (Jack Chen), and Karin. Predeceased by her husband
George in 1999 and her son John in 1997. She will be sorely missed by her
family and friends at Shaughnessy Heights United Church and her French club,
les Sans Soucis. Elizabeth founded the group in 1954 to preserve their

WARLOW _ Gwen Passed away July 28, 2007 Gwen will be dearly missed by her
brother Stu, nieces Kelly (Chris) Melonie, Lisa Warlow, Sue (Doug) Binns,
Elayne Warlow, great nephew Aidan, great nieces Kelsey, Sarah and Alyssa,
sister-in-law Rita Warlow, cousin Ridge (Stephanie) Sampson and dear friend
Norma. She also leaves behind her sister Helen Baldwin, brother Stan, nieces
Donna Moniz, Barb Scardera, nephew Trent their families and many near and
dear friends. Gwen's retirement from IBM allowed her to become involved with
Vancouver Ikibana Society, Sogetsu Group. She took up line dancing,
volunteered many countless hours with the Vancouver Art Gallery, Festival
Vancouver, Volunteer Grandparents and Habitat for Humanity. Gwen had a great
zest for life and maintained a positive attitude throughout her struggle
with cancer. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 2 at Unity of
Vancouver Church, 5840 Oak Street. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be
made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

WEISMILLER _ Darryl James June 19, 1980 - July 14, 2007 We are saddened to
announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Darryl James Weismiller at the
age of 27. Darryl was a loving son, brother, uncle and best friend. Darryl
was a wonderful, kindhearted person and will be sadly and dearly missed by

WONG _ Doris Irene Born December 18, 1929 in Sheperd's Bush, England, passed
away peacefully on July 26, 2007 at the age of 77 in Kelowna, BC. She is
survived by husband Gerald of Oyama, son Roger (Jillian) of Oyama, daughter
Lynne (Norm) of Kamloops, daughter Julie (Ken) of Oyama and grandchildren
Madison, Ben and Chelsea. She is also survived by sisters Margaret (Ray) and
Elma (Roy) both of Coquitlam and many nieces and nephews. Doris spent her
childhood in England and came to visit her sister in Canada in 1956. She met
Gerald in Ocean Falls and together raised their 3 children in Coquitlam.
Doris had a love affair with gardening and had a beautiful garden with over
100 rose bushes among other foliage. Doris worked at CP Rail and CN Rail
until her retirement at 65. She was a long time member of the Vancouver
Dahlia Society, Vancouver Rose Society, Fraser Burrard Rose Society. Late
last year they moved to Oyama to be closer to their children. Funeral
service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of
Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In memoriam

WONNACOTT _ Eri (Bill) In loving memory of Eri (Bill) Wonnacott, who passed
away at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario, on July 28, 2007,
at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Verona (Vee). He will be lovingly
missed by his daughter Wendy, her husband Peter McKee and their children
Danielle and Tom (pre-deceased) of Port Credit, Ontario, and son John, his
wife Glenda and their children Reese and Kyle, of Mission, British Columbia.
He will also be fondly remembered by his nephew Tom Griffin and family of
Edmonton. Eri is predeceased by his parents Ira and Florence (nee Gardiner),
his brothers Harry and Frank, sister Ida, and nephew Glen. Eri was a
Veteran, having flown in over 50 missions as a navigator with the RAF in
WWII. He was retired from his long-time association with Lever (Canada), and
was actively involved in thoroughbred horse racing across Canada. Friends

Dundas St., W., (1 block east of Erin Mills Pkwy.) from 2-4 p.m. on
