Look up Sacagawea- She was born of Northern Shoshone band in 1788 or 1789 . When she was about 10 her family to Montana to hunt & harvest. They were attacked by a band of Hidatsa raiders, Sacagawea was captured by this band & taken to the Hidatsa village on the knife river in North Dakota. Sometime between 1800 -1804 Toussaint Charboneau a fur trader purchaced the Shoshone girl by the fall of 1804 she as a teenager was carrying Charboneau`s child. Soon after giving birth she helped Merriweather Lewis, Wm Clark & small detachment to explore the 1804 Louisiana territory purchaced from France, under Thomas Jefferson.
There are Clarks that fought in Ohio some Clarks have Shawnee & other nearby tribal blood.
In a book called Indian Blood -Finding Your Native American Ancestors, By Richard Pangburn vol 1 & 2, this book lists many names & is "user friendly", as names are set up like a dictionary. I hope that Richard comes out with vol. #3 soon, as #2 sold out before I purchaced my copy. Check your library!!!!
