I am trying to complete the 200th anniversary edition of the
Descendants of Francis and Nancy (Glendenning) Coulter of Bovina,
Delaware County, NY. I need help in tracing several of our lost sheep.
Any information on families and descendants would be greatly appreciated.
1. William Coulter, b. 19 Jun 1817, Bovina, NY. Left Delaware County,
NY, May 1848 with wife. Known to have lived and died in
Rock County, Wisconsin, in the 1850s. Wife Isobel Glendening and 6
children, James, b. 1848 WI,( m. Sarah?, had Freddie, b 1874, WI
and Mary, b Dec 1876); Frank,b. 1850 WI,( m. Celia A.?,had Harry 1874,
Willie, 1877, Elizabeth, 1883, Ethel 1892, all born WI); Isabella b,
1853 WI; Nancy, b.1855 WI; William b.WI; Elizabeth b WI; all moved to
Mason City, Iowa, after Williams death. Isobel died in Iowa. The
children then moved to South Dakota, near Ipswich and Aberdeen. William
was my ggguncle.
2. John A. Coulter, b. 1842., d 1 Jan 1919, Boulder Co. He is buried in
Columbia Cemetary, Boulder, Co. He fought in the Civil War and left
Delaware Co. afterwards for the west. He first lived in the Clear Creek
area of CO. I have some information on him, mainly that he became a
lawyer and a judge. His wife was named Annie and he had a son, Harmon J.
I do not know if Laura Estelle was his daughter or his sons wife. Any
information on his career would be appreciated. I would like to contact
any of his descendants. John was also my ggguncle.
3.Thomas H. Colter, born 1844. Thomas was also in the Civil War.
Afterwards, he too went West. In 1889, he was living in Helena,
Montana, according to Aunt Mary McGibbons will. In 1903, he was living
in Blackfoot, Montana, according to the official history of the 144th
Regiment, NY Vol..Inf. Thomas was my 4th cousin
4. James Leiper Coulter b 1862. James married Hattie A. Gladstone in
1886. They moved to PA and had two children that I know of: Harry G., b
1889 and Andrew A., b 1891, d. 1980. James L. was the Boro Treasurer for
New Wilmington, PA in the 1920s (evidenced by a letter sent on
letterhead stationery) and was still living in New Wilmington in 1946
(evidence, a letter to the family reunion). The family lost touch after
that. James was my 4th cousin.
