Sam,
I believe some of her family are still in the area of Fayetteville,
Arkansas, and Springfield, Missouri. I used to live in Northwest Arkansas
and did a little research for one of the members of this family several
years ago; just as a favor, I am not a professional genealogist.
None of the names you have mentioned, however, are familiar to me. Off
hand, all I remember is a James Coulter and his brothers who took a herd of
horses from a ranch claiming they belonged to them. On their way to Fort
Smith to sell the horses, the people they took them from caught up with them
in the mountains and an angered argument ensued and one of the Coulter
brothers was gunned down. Have you heard this story? These Coulters came
from Tennessee, as best as I recollect.
Call the Public Library in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The staff in the
Genealogical Library there are very helpful, knowledgeable and cordial.
They are always talking on the phone giving answers to somebody. I do not
know what their procedures are for conducting research or mailing copies,
but it will be a pittance I'm sure. They have a surprisingly excellent
library for a town that size.
Another good place is the Genealogical Room at The Peel Mansion in
Bentonville, Arkansas. They will equally give you a good reception. I am
sorry that I do not have the addresses or phone numbers of either place.
Nor did I keep copies of my research.
In the meantime I will hunt up the name and address of someone in this
family and put you in touch. Every year in June there is a Coulter Reunion
in Springfield, MO of unrelated Coulters who are trying to find a connection
and who share their research. Some of your Coulter family is usually there.
CAVEAT: Hopefully, I am talking about the same family; I may not be.
Good luck and best regards,
Warren Coulter
