Robert COULTER was born in 1723 in Gabinheough, Tyrone, Ireland. He died in 1783 in Chester County South Carolina. He married Mary STUART before 1753 in , , Ireland.

This what I found on the net. I many question about this fact and family

Robert Coulter of SC. Does anyone know when he died? This date above in question because
remember he had son name Robert and they could get mix up with land records. Making it hard the early land records to read. But below is what I think about the land records.

His wife was said to be Mary with maiden of Stuart. Does anyone know where this came from?
I also found on the net her father was said "Levi" Stuart. This first name is Jewish. The last name is Stuart this just does not make since.

I know his son Robert b abt 1760 was said to have the middle name Stuart. Where did this come from?

I know that on the net and family that they say Robert was born in Ireland. The ship that he might came on to SC in 1772 might have came from Ireland but what proof does any one have that he was Irish? Now the Coulter name is Scottish as well as the name of Robert.

>From Scotch-Irish Migration to S.C. in 1772 by Jean Stephenson

Page 43 3. Robert Jamieson 250 A. (b) Pl. Bk. Vol.19 P489; 6 Jan. 1773; in Craven Co. on waters of Rocky Creek; bd'd Robert Coulter, John Casky, Thomas Huston, David Grimbs, Mary Coulter, vacant land; cer. 6 June 1774 Ord Co. 3 April 1775 for Thomas Singleton. (c) Chester

This ship comes from Ireland and is on the Rev. William Martin ships but just because the ship came from Ireland does not make all person on the ship Irish. There Scottish families on these ship where else did the statement Scotch-Irish come.

Robert might have married Mary ? in Ireland but I do not think he was born there. Does any one have proof that Mary was born in Ireland?
I have look into Irish records and Coulter famliy seems to have been in Ireland after 1790s but not before. Not that Robert was not there but just not born there.

As for Mary I am not sure is she was or if she was even a Stuart.
This Stuart line is from Mary of Scots son James who was raise Protestant.
The story of the Coulter family helping the Stuart in over throw of King of England. It is wonderful story but I have question.

1 to be Bonnie Prince Charles Stuart that date is 1760s. So Robert to mix with, if Robert was born in 1720s, he would have been 40s. I have look for Robert born 1720s, I can not find one.

2 If the Coulter was help Charles Stuart father James Stuart the date for this is 1740s and Robert born in 1720s would be 20s.

But still Can anyone find a Robert born in 1720 not just what someone wrote on the net with no proof.

Does any one know how MANY Children did Robert and Mary have?? I was told that they were the following children:

1 Mary Ann COULTER was born in 1752. She died in 1824.1824 in ,Todd, Kentucky Marriage John STEVENSON b: 1750 in Ireland

2 Archibald COULTER was born in 1753. He died in 1824. in Todd County Kentucky Married: 1771 in South Carolina Mary b: 1753 in Kentucky

2 Margaret COULTER was born in 1755. She died in 1792/1796.Married: ABT. 1775 in ,Chester Co., South Carolina, Andrew GRAHAM b: ABT. 1753 in County Antrim Ireland

3 Elizabeth COULTER was born in 1758. Question where did this name come from?

4 Robert Stuart COULTER was born in 1760. He died on 4 Sep 1821.Madison County, Illinois Married: BEF. 1753 in ,,South Carolina, Margaret FLEMING b: 1764 in Bull's Run, Virginia
Now how can a child born 1760 marry before 1753????
Look below by land records you see when they were married

I know when people came to America then they were give "Headrights". This land or Headrights that was given to person who came to America by SC leaders.

I read that in SC and NC each person in the family (encluding the children) was give Headrights.

Gerald Coulter has on his webpage.

http://members.tripod.com/~GeraldCoulter/Records.html

He has the following land records and I think they are Headrights

Question is this Alexander found in land records/headrights in SC be the same on list here in 1770?
Alexander could have gotten land in SC that is on the county/State line and there for is found in both SC and NC. He list with Robert Coulter and Mary Coulter's children in their Headrights.

Here is the question is Alexander Coulter of Tryon NC the son Robert Coulter and Mary Coulter of SC?

Because he is not found any more in SC but NC people thought that he was not related but now.
