Walsh County Record (North Dakota) 18 Sep 1912.
Pioneer Farmer Died Suddenly On Friday.
Joseph Coulter, a Prominent Farmer of Vernon Twp, Died From Heart Failure.
Joseph Coulter, one of the pioneer residents of Walsh county died suddenly from heart failure at his home in Vernon last Friday. He was examining some wheat that was being hauled in from the threshing machine and expired without a word. he has been suffering for some time from fainting spells.
He came to Walsh county in the early eighties and had made a great success of farming in Vernon township where he settled. He was 50 years old and one of the best known men in his section, kindly, generous and upright. He was president of the Farmers Security Bank of Park River and considered the wealthiest farmer in the county. He left a wife and five children to mourn his loss.
The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon in Park River at three o'clock, Rev. D. Finlayson officiating. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member, James MacDonald of Grafton acting as master. The interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
