These diaries were purchased from a flea market in the Long Beach area of California by this "JERRY". I am sure they were either donated or sold "at auction or yard sale" by the children of William Alexander Coulter, II after his death in 2002.
The "Jerry" who purchased the diaries has NO connection to either the Coulter, Bowring or Allen families. He buys these type of boos and then researches the families "for fun". He informed me he had done this with over 40 families so far. I contacted him when he first put the query on the list's, Bowring & Coulter. Through emailing, I learned his purpose of purchasig thesr diaries and ship's log. At the time, I advised him that the diaries and logs had been kept by my son's great grandfather, William Bowring and his grandfather, Stuart Alexander Coulter, son-in-law to William Bowring. I also asked if he would be willing to sell them at some future date and if so, I would like to purchase them from him. At the time he was not intetested.
A couple of years later, I contacted Jerry about purchasing the diaries and logs. He said he would be interested. However, when it came to price, all he would do was quote to me how much the going rate for these types of books about "famous" people were selling for on ebay...$8,000. -$10,000. dollars! This person is a rip off artist and genealogy vouyer. I shared this opinion with him and have not contacted him since.
I would advise not to share your personal information with this fellow. Although, he already has lots of information.
