Hello Jane:

Thanks for your message, "cousin"!

I have spent several years poking around at this hobby, but concluded last
year that I couldn't do any more on my own. I hired a researcher in
Northern Ireland and he was able to take the only fact I had, my ggg
g-father's name, Samuel, farmer, Armagh, and build something out of it.

His belief is that we can rely on family naming practices and religious
denomination for clues. Since my gg g-father's name was Richard it was safe
to assume that Samuel's father's name was Richard and since they were Church
of Ireland it was a simple matter of sorting through the Parish records unit
we came to a group of Richards and Samuels. There was only one and that was
in Seagoe. He stated that he would stake his reputation on it.

I traveled there last year and met him. A retired school principal and
widower, he struck me as a very trustworthy and knowledgeable person. Based
on these facts I'm claiming this family as mine. It's a bit of a struggle
going through the records to sort out who belongs to whom as more Samuels
and Richards are named by their offspring.

I ran out of time on the last trip as I had to eliminate several Coulter
families before I got the Seagoe. I would like to go back and start
knocking on Coulter doors in that area to see what I could learn.

I'm very interested in what you have learned about your branch.

Cheers, Gary
