The Croatian telephone directory lists 1 surname Claudio Grisan under
the port city of Rijeka (C) Fiume (I) located on the Adriatic Sea on
coast NE of Cres.
Both names for this city mean 'river' in their respective languages.
The telephone directory for the Istrian penninsula lists a surname
Fernanda Grisan under the port city of Pula (C) Polo (I) which is
located
on the coast west of Cres.
The directory also lists 25 surname Negovetic' (Negovetich) under the
Rijeka region; 9 surnames are listed under Cres (town) on otok Cres,
some
are listed under Rijeka, and 1 is listed under otok Krk, which is
located
just east of otok Cres.
There are a few surname Grisan listed in Germany as well as some surname
bearers Grisani , which is an Italian surname.
Wonder if the surname Grisan could have an Italian conection ?
One surname Grisani in the German telephone directory also bears the
Italian
first name Claudio which translates to Claude (E)
The LDS-Mormons have filmed the parish records at the 12 regional
Croatian
State Archives.
These microfilm reels are available for rental and viewing at any
Family History Center (FHC) worldwide.
90% of patrons are non-Mormons doing surname research.
The records microfilmed have greater linguistic diversity than for most
other geographic regions.
Latin, Croatian, Slovene, Serbian, German, Hungarian, or Italian
are possible languages used.
