Mary,

I don't know what years you are looking at, but in my Croatian research
from 1828-1858 Latin was used for about the first half, then Croatian.
In the earlier records, the given names were latinized (e.g., Martinus,
Josephus, etc.). I would guess that is the case with Marko/Marcus. I
have also used the address as a validating fact.

My GM was Franca (Frances), and although in her case the given name was
consistent, I have other cases where there were minor variations in the
given name. GF was Franjo (Frank), and Franja would be the feminine
form. Franck is a shortened form of Francis, so I would conclude that
Franca/Franja are variations of the same given name.

Regards "vid" and "dieb", three possibilities: 1) I have noted that when
recording these entries the priest would break words in very unlikely
places to start the next line within a box. Either or both of these
could be the end of a previous word if they are at the begining of a
line. 2) There were many abreviations used and since I am not fluent in
latin/Croatian/Hungarian/Italian (any of these languages could have been
used) I'm not equipped to try to translate. 3) The handwriting is
difficult to decipher in most cases, even if very neat (seldom the
case), because the script was so different from modern script. "Vid"
might be "Vlad"?

If you were to resubmit your questions on the last item, but identify
the language and include the entire entry (for context) I would guess
someone can answer difinitively.
