To Lisa Jarma,

Speaking from personal experience, I think the main difference between using
the state archives for research, and using an individual certified
genealogist, is principally the time involved in waiting for the results.

We have used the State Archives 3 times, in 1989, 1991, 1993. The time delay
before receiving a reply was considerable, altho I believe it is much
improved at the present time, once the CR became aware of the universal and
deep demand for genealogical research.

We have since used Duncan Gardiner, a certified genealogist from Ohio
() who makes two trips a year to the CR on behalf of clients.
We are at present awaiting a report from him about his most recent trip
during which he did further work on our behalf.

Both sources proved themselves to be excellent, providing us with data on our
family backgound (my father came from Bohemia at the age of 13 in 1889) back
to the early 1700's. So I can recommend each way without reservation.

Good luck, and a very Happy New Year!

Mary Hosteny
