To Karen Hob -
Bless you for all the wonderful information you give us! What are your
source books? Wouldn't matter if they're in German as I can translate fairly
well.
First - according to Kit Kittilson's list of 29 Nov 2000, Infantry Regiment
No. 36 was primarily for the Boleslaw area, which I would agree with, as my
paternal grandfather served in that regiment, and most of the males in my
family also did. Dad was born in Kleinbosig, about 20 miles NE of Praha, and
his father in Vapno, even farther north close to the border, so both villages
were in the Sudetenland. So I would tend to think that No. 36 was primarily
a Bohemian regiment
Second - do you know of the new edition of the Family History Liubrary
Catalog published in March 2000? At one point you quoted some 1500 records
for the Austrian Army.
The new CD published last year contains 2600+ Austrian Army records. This
new catalog is not the one on their web site - that is the old one of some
1500+ records. There is one catch - you MUST ask for these records in
German, as they are listed in actuality. So in Keyword Search, fill in
"Osterreich Armee Infanterie Regimente", and up pops your uncle with the
entire list of Infantry Regiments! Isn't that wonderful?
This CD is available for $5 (yes, five dollars) from the Order Department of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City.
Information can give you their 800 number, and they are most obliging. If
your local FHC does not have it, they should order it.
The very happiest of New Years to you!
Mary Hosteny
