I have learned so much on this website about my Grandfather, Alois J,
Bocek's homeland, the old Czechoslvakia. He came to Usa in early 1900's.
he was born in Strancice, near Prague I believe. My grandfather and Dad
are deceased now , that is where my Aunts say he was born in 1885. Think
it was 60 or 70 miles NE of Prague. Do any of you know where Strancice
is?? My Aunts are in their 70's now, the story is Alois Bocek"s family
owned a Brickyard. I was wondering in those days where did they get the
money to send my Grandfather to Usa. I think he was the youngest son in
the family. what is a good site to look at an old map of that area in
1885. As far as I know we are only branch of Bocek's of Alois's family
that came to Usa.
We are related to Hladiks, Hermaneks, Horakva(sp) Starek, and I believe
a Handlik.
We have found a pix of Alois's father and mother and his sisters Bessie
and Marie (Mary).
Which was great because my grandparents house burned down in the 70's
with all of his papers.
So if anyone has anything to help me, thanks in advance. I know we have
cousins in CZ Republic, they would not be too far down the chain as it
was my grandfather who came to America . Rose Bocek Gerow
