Could anyone with the Baca books please tell me if there any of these names listed? I am just getting started with this and have always been interested in this branch of my family but haven't been able to find any names beyond my great granfather, Joseph Smaha. If anyone can tell me "anything" I would be extremely grateful.
I posted this before if this would be of any help:
I am kind of a "newbie" on this list. I have mainly been reading up to this point. I am looking for my SMAHA ancestors and have have hit many brick walls along the way. I have been able recently to locate a distant relative in Czechoslovakia that has located the area that my great-grandfather came from. I have a postcard that shows a small village and points out that it is where my great-grandfather was born. The information I received matches what is on the postcard. There is Klatovy, Tupadla and Spizova Skala mentioned on the card. I have heard from him that other relatives said the Smaha's there were farmers outside the small village of Tupadla and that Spizova Skala means Spizova rock. The postcard looks like a rocky area.
If I could receive ANY information, I would be extremely grateful. I do know that my great-grandfather came to America at the age of 13. He was born October 4, 1854 in Bohemia according to the information that I have. That would make if about 1867 when he came over here. His name was JOSEPH SMAHA. He married FANNIE ZATECHKA or ZATECA (sp?). She was also born in Bohemia on November 22, 1853 and came to America at the age of 16 years of age.
If anyone could help me I would be very grateful.
Thank You!
Carolyn (Smaha) Groth
