first: have it restored,(if possible), next have copies made, they make copies almost the same as the original, then by all means have it put on MICROFILM, this way you can always have it, and if anybody needs a copy, you can have it off the film. But keep the MICROFILM in the freezer.

I have several my Grandparents papers that I am almost afraid to touch
because they are more than a hundred years old. Some were folded years
ago and the paper is very fragile where folded. Any suggestion on what
to do to preserve and protect the document other than handling them
with special care. I have heard of places that do restoration work but
that takes mailing them away which I wouldnt want to take a chance
doing. Listers, any suggestions for me?
