Hello,
Could someone kindly direct me to any sources you are aware of for details
on Capt. Martin? He had his hands in many events related to the colonies
and I would think that there should be a biography or two available, but I
haven't located any at all.
Here are some things I have learned about him however through brief
references to him in the sources I have read:
John MARTINE (by his hand)
He was captain for one of Francis DRAKE's ships in the late 16th century.
He is found in numerous records of the Virginia Company of London
Conducted trade and transported colonists between England, New England and
Virginia.
Involved in some land dispute's over charters he had received in Virginia.
I believe he was connected to the wars in the Low Countries and may have
known Myles Standish and others serving the crown in that war.
The records I have found tell a lot about his business, but is anything
known about him or his family? Is he related to the MARTINE's of New England?
Respectfully,
Patrick Payne
