Though you can't be expected to know this - especially from the above web
page (and since it is some time since this matter was discussed here) - the
2% census sample files the above site provides are there in breach of
copyright, and despite the owner's explicit wishes.
Some years ago we briefly provided copies of these files in GENUKI, until
we found out about their status, and of course hurriedly removed them, and
tried to persuade others to do the same - regrettably with less than total
success, since some genealogy web site owners do not seem to realise how
much is to be lost if copyright violation becomes commonplace.
Fully legal copies, with convenient search facilities, of the 2% sample are
available for purchase on CD-ROM - though of little interest to anyone
whose interests are centred on Devon, given the LDS's complete
transcription on CD-ROM of the 1851 Devon census.
