Hi Jeanette,

I visited Hatherleigh during March last year and can confirm that there is an information booklet available for the parish church. The booklet is priced £1 and I obtained my copy from inside the church, you just leave your money in the collection box. The parish church is called St John the Baptist and when I was there the church was open (this was on a Saturday); it's quite rare to find a church open nowadays. There are three churches in Hatherleigh, the parish church (St John the Baptist), the Methodist church and the Vine church. There is a grave yard attached to the parish church, I found my g.g.grandparents grave there, not sure about any other cemeteries in the town.

There is also a book available about the town and it's past. Its title is 'the story of HATHERLEIGH' and it is priced at a very reasonable £3.99, available from the town's post office. The book contains lots of old photographs of Hatherleigh and some more recent one's.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have an ancestor who was born in Hatherleigh about 1795 and I was
interested in finding out a little bit about the village as we will be
coming to Devon and other parts of England in a few months.
Unfortunately I don't know my ancestor's Surname as yet, just Ann, but hope
to find that out before arriving. I noticed there is an information booklet
available for the parish church and wondered where I might be able to obtain
one when we come to Devon.

Any help would be appreciated.
