lol Elizabeth.... thank you.. I would love to claim him! I wondered if he
moved to Manchester as a young person and had the appropriate accent which
would account for his father being a Dyer. Were there dyers down south?
And maybe the house was crawling with little ones during the census so the
enumerator just put down 'Manchester' to get out quickly!!

The other circumstantial evidence I have is Thomas named two sons Owen (one
died young), I presume after his father. BUT...his father being a Dyer fits
with Manchester and one son who died in WW1 joined the Manchester Regiment,
while another joined a Devonshire unit...... argh.
