Looking up the name in my trusty Oxford Dictionary of English Surnames the
name means "from Dorset" which can be spelt "Dorset, Dorsett, or Dossett."
The entry goes on to say that the first record of the name was "Alexander de
Dorset" 1225 AssSo, (I think Assize roles,); Ralph Dossett 1602 FrY,
(Register of the Freemen of the City of York.) From Dorset.
Thats it,
Hope it helps,
