Debs,

Robert was nephew of John Slade. Since John's only son died in NFLD, the business devolved to his nephews. Have you anything on the Hayter's, John's in-laws, who started him in the Newfoundland business?

The merchant John Slade (1719-1792) was a son of John & Ann and the info you have reported so far is quite clear about George Nickleson Allen. Obviously there is a relationship here with (Nickleson) the wife of Joseph White, the Quaker merchant.

My ancestor, Thomas Cole, whom I believe to be from Wimborne Minster, died in Newfoundland and mentioned monies in the hands of Robert Slade, merchant in Poole.
