Subject: THOMAS HARDY connection?
Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 17:56:40 -0000
I became interested in genealogy in the 1970s after an aged uncle mentioned, whilst looking through some old family photos of mine, that his mother had some letters, usually giving unwanted advice, and a photo from "that writer chap".
"I think he became quite famous, can't remember his name, but he lived in Dorset" he said.
"Not Thomas Hardy!" I exclaimed.
"That's the chap" he replied.
That triggered memories of a pale blue photo album I was given as a child to keep me amused when visiting my grandparents. How I wish I had it now!
Since then I have researched my maternal line but have not been able to find any positive connection with the Hardy family. The most likely seems to be SARAH RIGGS who was a servant at the Rectory, Binghams Melcombe in 1861. Could she have been a servant to Thomas Hardy at some time. I would dearly love to know.
