Hi Gary, (let's see if we can outsmart AOL !)
(This is a copy of an earlier message I tried to send to you - with other
comments added tonight!)
Got your interesting message!
This is so fascinating.
A founder of Newark, NJ? omygosh!
We lived in NJ for 20 years and my husband worked for AT&T in Newark for a
good deal of that time!
I have to ask you if you've ever seen a copy of "The Memorials of The
Duttons of Dutton.....with notes on the Sherborne branch?" This tells much
about John Bruen and his connections with the Duttons. Without looking back
at it.....I think I remember a Dancing School at Dutton Hall. Was John the
teacher? Yes, I think so. And his parents decided that all that was much
too frivolous!! (or something like that!) "The Duttons of Dutton..... can be
rented on microfilm from the Mormon Library. Or maybe you've already seen
it?? By the way.....it has the same picture that you sent me!
I have a copy of the book.....guess I could make some copies of text from it
if you haven't seen it.
(Then I asked you for a descendancy list......and then you sent it to
someone else on the list, so I have it. And I see your connection......guess
we're cousins!)
You asked to see the pictures of Sir Piers Dutton.....and I shall send them
to you in tomorrow's mail. But the question now comes up.......whether
we're talking about the same Sir Piers. I'm comparing your descendancy list
with our BIG CHART....and I can follow you easily down to Edmund and his
son....Sir Peter....and to his son John Dutton....and then to Maud. Now
then, the Sir Piers Dutton in these pictures (beginning with Edmund again)
then to his son HUGH to his son John to his son Peter of Hatton to his son
Peter Dutton of Hatton and then to the Sir Piers Dutton of the picture.
Cousins....but not the same Sir Piers or Peter, as you call him.
Is that a disappointment? I hope not. This fellow is the one who won the
dispute between the co-heirs when the one line daughtered out! He is the
one who built the Dutton Hall which is now a school down in Ashurst Wood
etc. He was knighted by Henry VIII -- who also put him in charge of the
dissolution of the Catholic Church in the Vale Royal---Norton Priory area.
Are you with me??
I would direct you also to "The Dutton Family of Pennsylvania" by Gilbert
Cope.....and to this BIG Chart, if you don't already have one. It's so much
easier to "see" it sometimes.
Well, let me know if you haven't seen the Bruen info in Duttons of Dutton. I
could stick those pages in with these pictures.
Fun talking to you!
Phyllis

Phyllis,
I saw your posting in Dutton-Rootsweb about the 3 e-mail attachments
containing pictures of Sir Piers Dutton. I am very interested in this as he
is my proven ancestor, through Obadiah Bruen (1606-1681), who immigrated
from
Cheshire, England to CT in 1640. He was one of the founders of the city of
Newark, NJ.
The attachments were not part of your posting. I would be thrilled to
have
them. Could you please send them to me? Thanks so much.
