Thank you, Doug for your reflections. What you say is
so very true. We are BLESSED!
I, too, have hit some brick walls of my own- I'd
dearly love to find the burial site of my
g-g-g-grandfather, Asa Dutton. I know for certain that
it's less than 15 miles from my home, but where?
Frustrating for sure.
BUT! Sometimes strange things happen...
My mother recently (in May) had some serious health
problems. She had 3 chest tubes put in in 19 days time
and ultimately had surgery to close her lung. She's
doing great now. But here's "the rest of the story"!
When my dad went to the registrar's desk to sign Mom
in at the hospital (this was the second ER visit, I
believe), there was a man at the next desk telling the
lady "that's spelled D-U-T-T-O-N." Dad, being only too
aware that I've been tracing our Dutton roots, of
course, immediately told the gentleman that his mother
was a Dutton. The man said "Well, then, we have to be
related! Hello, cousin!" He gave Dad his name and
phone number, along with the names of his father and
grandfather. I was in the ER with Mom (I'm an RN and a
bit of a mother hen, I'm afraid) and when Dad came
back he relayed this story to me and gave me the piece
of paper with the info on it. I recognized the names!
"Dad!" I said, "This man really IS your cousin!" The
man's name is Mel Dutton and his grandfather and my
greatgrandfather were brothers! I've spoken to him
several times and he has told me stories and sent me
pictures- one is of my gggrandmother! He said he has
lots more to share, too.
So sometimes happen when we least expect them to.
We're so lucky!
Lynn
