****** Damage to Sherborne Hall during WWII was done by the AMERICAN
SOLDIERS who used the old Hall as barracks! AWK! Apparently the US Govt.
paid for all the damages! I certainly HOPE so!

****** Anne McDonald says YES, the English DO sell T-shirts to tourists! I
must have missed them - I really wanted one with a castle on it! Ah
well---next trip over!

****** How far did the vagrants and fiddlers and motley rabble have to WALK
from Chester to Rhuddlan Castle to come to the aid of Ranulf de
Blundeville??? I have rec'd e-mail from Sue Tinsley on the Cheshire-L
list who tells me that she
"lives 2 miles from Rhuddlan Castle (my husband drives past it twice a day
to and from work) and we are 26 miles from the centre of Chester. It takes
35 minutes by car from here to Chester. Walking would take best part of a
day (at least 15 hours). "
